Speed Sensitive Wipers

Featured Replies

Found out that OctyII has speed sensitive wipers, which was a nice surprise. Didn't know about that one unitl it lashed it down today!!.

It's a nice feature until you are sat at a junction in heavy rain and they don't clear the windscreen for what feels like long periods of time.

I presume its rain sensitive too, so they activate when the screen gets wet like the Golf?

If so you might want to keep your windscreen clean too because they go mental if it gets dirty. It was a nightmare when the gritters were out and the screen was getting caked in grit/dust.

Nope, just standard stalk operated ones, I think those rain sensitive ones are more trouble than they are worth and whats the hardship in flicking the lever to switch 'em on when it's raining?.

Gotta agree with you on that one, picking up the new VRS very soon and that's one lelment of the old car I won't miss. Very tempermental. So I take it they just stop when stationary and restart when on the move, that'll do me

Personally I like the rain sensitive wipers, although I would not pay extra for them as an option.

yep.

The speed and rain sensitive wipers can be quite effective I've found. As above the only downside is when they stop at junctions, the rain hasn't stopped so why do the wipers!

Do they do like my Clio used to? Ie if you got a sudden pour, it would take a few seconds for it to think 'hang on, I need to wipe quickly'?

I think it is partly because with lack of forward motion they are registering less "wet" and partly because the wiper speed is geared to road speed on that setting. Again this annoying "final wipe" thing is probably because after they first stop another dribble of water runs down the screen.
