Folding towbar issue

Featured Replies

Hi, does anyone know of a way to stop the folding towbar fitted to our Karoq from going rusty.  We had to clean the paint off due to our tow hitch anti sway device (needs the towball to be clean and grease free) so when we tried to fit a towball protector when it is stowed away it is upside down and fills with rain water from the road conditions causing rust.  We have now taken the cover off and obviously it is still open to the elements and rusting which means a 10 minute de rusting every time we use it.  I have thought of greasing it but this will destroy the anti sway brake pads.  Any ideas please.

Welcome.

Grease it while stored away and clean off with Brake Cleaner when it is needed and out.

Might take well under 5 minutes.

If you're not using it often, cover in grease, brake grease is good because it does not wash off with water. Then, when required, wipe clean, and degrease with brake cleaner and kitchen roll paper.

Alternatively pop a small plastic bag over it and seal with tight elastic bands and/or tape, maybe a tiny hole at lowest point when folded to drain anything that gets in.
