Skoda Octavia 2 problem!

Featured Replies

Good afternoon everyone,

I just bought recently a Skoda Octavia 2 2008 1.6 FSI with 93000 miles on it, and I have a problem for which I am very sad and looking forward for you help

The car it's making a ''vibrating'' or something combined with a ''grinding'' noise all the time even in neutral or when start driving, but the sound is gone when I'm pressing the clutch pedal down. It's coming back when the clutch is halfway up.

I'm reading about problems with release bearing or maybe even the clutch kit, but can you please, help me with any ideas of what it can be. I will go to the mechanic as soon as possible next days but I'm already consuming myself.

Thank you all!

Sounds like it could well be the release bearing. It may be worth having a search on here or google for Dual Mass Flywheel (DMF). Not sure if fitted to the 1.6 FSi, but be very surprised if not. HTH

I just saw the mechanic, and he told me is the input shaft bearing... I'm very worried now, I just bought the car 2 days ago

He just listened the car and played with the clutch but this is what he told me.

What is your advice, please? Thank you

I think he's probably right.

How that can be fixed and around what's the cost involved?

Same situation on mine awaiting service and MOT soon, so this will be fixed at the same time other than that the car has ben bullet proof for the last six years of ownership.

Can you please let me know about any updates

I spoke today with 2 guys which are working with gearboxes and told me that for this specific model in 9/10 cases gearbox needs to be replaced with another one. The second one asked for 750 to change the input shaft bearing.

Did you buy this car privately or via a dealer? If a dealer take it back for them to fix. If privately call the person you bought it from, but I bet they knew about the problem which is why it’s sold on.

Via a dealer... he offered me some money as he’s saying that the car drives fine and he don’t have to take it back. It’s my second car and I really don’t know how these things are working, I gave him my first car as a part exchange

No, if the car has a clear and verified issue then they either need to resolve, or give you your money back. Use the words, the car is not fit for purpose.

I already accepted the offer... because I had no one to tell me that clear and I was “tight” with the time... I feel really bad because all of this

Well I hope it was around the £750 you’ve been quoted.

People, wise up, google Consumer Rights Act 2015 in the UK

cclaus your dealer is WRONG, don't be ripped off, it is the dealers responsibility to fix it.

You still have those rights.
