Roomster 2 2008 1.4 Litre. Oil and filter change

Featured Replies

It's unbelievable how hard it is to get honest quotes and correct information

I just bought a 2nd hand Roomster and for good measure I prefer to do what I can myself

Firstly I need to know what oil is suitable and what the capacity is of the sump.

If I can get it done cheap enough by a garage it will save me doing a messy job without a ramp on an uncomfortable gravel drive although I will if I have to.

Trying to get a sensible quote online I keep getting directed to a very expensive full service costing £130+. and I don't want a full service

Could anyone advise?

Hi, Opie oils on this site will help you regarding which oil.

Assuming your a novice and your car is a diesel 1.4 TDI with a PD engine ,and running well with no problems, why not start with a lubrication service.

You will need a PD OIL such as Car Engine Oil Triple QX SynPlus PD SAE 5W40 Fully Synthetic 5L PD Spec 5 Litre

An electric pump see thread below re extrcting oil from dipstick hole.

A wrench to remove the oil filter. For an oil filter put your reg into a motor factors like Europarts to get a appropriate oil filter ,I always go for the cheapest oil filter.(i dont trust factors on there oil choice,as you must use PD oil)

Warm car up by a run round block, stop engine, drain oil by electric pump into an empty container.

Remove oil filter ,note where oil ring sits on filter so when replacing with new you know where it goes.Screw in new filter ,no need for ramps.

Fill engine with new oil ,slowly checking dipstick at regular intervals ,you dont want to overfill.

Look at your handbook for quantity ,as you wont use 5 litres.

It is very easy ,but dont rush ,do your research first.

Cost of oil and filter should be around £30.

Thanks. Well it's a 1.4L petrol but I assume its all the same spec

I do have a pump like you described but haven't used it yet. Some advise against it. I bought mine in an Aldi when I had a VW Passat but the tube was too wide. Bought a thinner one to insert into the wider one but it was still too wide so I never used it. I imagine it would be the same with Skoda engines

I'm not exactly a novice I really just wanted the spec since the handbook recommendations were confusing but your suggestion about putting in the reg into Eurocarparts site is probably the best

Thanks

@Juliasdream - Well, if the car is a 1.4 petrol then you do not want a diesel oil.

Opie Oils on this site. Simple.

Yes if its not a PD Diesel engine ,then the oil is not so critical. Europarts recommendation will probably be good enough. If the petrol engine has the oil filter on the top just under the bonnet then hopefully you wont need ramps.

I know on my daughters 1.6 polo I was disappointed to find I had to get the ramps out,as the filter wasn,t accessible from the top.

Anyway good luck.
