After market radio constant power

Featured Replies

Hello, i was wondering if anybody could be awesome and tell what coloured wires i would need to swap around so my radio has constant power to save all off my setting, like FM stations, date and time.

I have seen a few diagrams on the internet but im still unsure.

Thank you

Yellow and red.

If you're fitting an aftermarket radio you will also need a signal booster or the radio will not work properly.

Thank you, how would i attact a signal booster.

TMB, iv ordered a booster now, cheers

I will post a video for you.

Are you sure you've ordered the right booster? There are different ones for different connections. For example PC5-90 and PC5-52.

I typed in signal booster for 2004 skoda fabia signal booster and picked one that said its from stock radio to after market with a signal booster.

Hi TMB i dont have red or yellow on my iso connecter, there are 2, black and blue wires and a brown and red one. I know i have to connect the brown and red wire to one off the black and blue ones, but im unsure which one.

Cheerz

Black/blue wires are both permanent 12V off fuse 45 as far as I can see. The Brown/red is off the 'S' contact of the ignition key, via fuse 10 (live as soon as the key is put in, I think).

Yeah thats right mate but when i put the brown and the black wire together my radio wouldnt turn off at all, where i thought it would turn off but store settingings.

Cheers

Yeah, well if you join a permanent 12V feed to one that switches off when the key is removed, they'll both stay on all the time. So that's not what you need to do.

What you do need to do I'm not sure...

I did it afyer seeing a few videos on youtube but there radios all turned off after and stored the settongs.

I think the connector pictured by TMB in his first post is an adaptor cable, plugged into the existing factory wiring.  Can you picture what you have, and does that plug directly into the back of the radio, or not?

The stock iso connecter fits into my aftermarket radio without another connecter.

Ah, missed that.  Does the radio have a connection pinout in its manual?

  • Author

No but i used this picture off another post and its right

That's the pinout of the car connector though, isn't it, rather than the mating connector in the back of the radio.  You need to know what the radio needs on each of the 8 pins.

Ahh right, i dont have one then mate i have an iso connecter that came with the aftermarket radio and its labeled mate.

What do the labels say?

Photo of what you've got at the back of the radio would help, including this ISO lead if it's not captive to the radio.

What radio is it? Couldn't you look up its connection info online?

Sounds like you need another harness in between so you can modify the wiring without butchering the cars wiring loom
