Wing mirror indicator plastic cover

Featured Replies

Hi

My Octavia has the LED wing mirror indicators, due to a recent close call with a lamppost it caught the small plastic part that protrudes from the mirror and part of the clear plastic cover has snapped off!

Is there anywhere that just sells these clear cover parts? A quick search through ebay seems to indicate that replacing the whole unit is required, that or I have at it with the superglue and hope for the best!

Cheers

The clear plastic is part of the LED indicator and does not come off.

That's why it's not available as a separate part and you need to replace the complete LED indicator. Still, £7 isn't bad :)

Thanks, thought as much! Replacement it is & hope that this weather doesn't kill off the LED's before it arrives

So the ebay part arrived and works thankfully! I couldn't find much information online so below is the steps I followed to change this should a google show up this thread for someone in the future.

Based on a 2011 FL Octavia Elegance II

Tools:

- Bike tyre levers or spudger (thanks to a comment on the forum for this one)

- T10 torx bit

- WD40

- tape

I have the puddle light, which conveniently blocks access to one of the 2 screws holding the indicator assembly in, if you don't have this then you'd be good to go after step 4 as it clips into the upper plastic section.

1. Tilt the mirror fully upwards, then using a plastic pry tool in the created gap gently lever the wing mirror glass off. There are two main clips holding it in and a few smaller ones connecting it to the movement mechanism

2. (if you have it) Mark one of the 2 wires connected to the heated glass so you can re-attach later and disconnect them

3. Next up is two T10 screws, one on the inside & one on the outside that hold the rear plastic on

At this point I removed 3 further T10 screws holding the mirror movement mechanism in place, however as I found out this wasn't necessary

4. Using the tyre lever work along the front of the mirror above the indicator and prise it upwards. There are 2 clips on the top of the indicator assembly holding it on, one is accessible on the outside of the mirror, one not. It can then be removed.

5. Pull the bulb out of the puddle light bracket, I found a light spray of WD40 made it much easier to pull this out (and re-insert). The bulb just pulls out of the rubber fitting.

6. The lower section is held on with 3 clips highlighted in red, I used gentle downward pressure and the tyre lever to pry it off. Now 2 more T10 screws are accessible that hold the puddle light assembly on.

7. The final 2 screws that hold the indicator assembly in are now accessible, remove these & the indicator can be unplugged and swapped for the replacement unit

8. After testing to make sure the replacement indicator works, reassembly is then the reverse of the above, being careful to line up all the plastic clips before sliding everything back into place. A spray of WD40 was applied to all the electrical connectors for good measure. Note that the power cable for the indicator and puddle light comes down the front of the mirror housing, before coming back under for the puddle light.

I hope this helps someone out so they don't have to do as much guesswork as I did

Cheers
