Front Assist/Adaptive Cruise Control and Senasor View Restricted

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

Bought this car few days ago with 89k on the clock. Since I am driving it I am getting annoying message on the dash with audible sound saying Front assist: Sensor View Restricted. I red the manual it says to visually check the sensor and clean it if it this message appears. I did it, still its happening. When I diagnose the car it always brings that Adaptive Cruise Control Sensor View Restricted.

But problem is I don't have adaptive cruise control in my car (at least by the view of it). So what is it going on you think and how can I get it fixed. Quick advice will be appreciated. thank you.

You'll know if you have adaptive cruise control, as you'll have two stalks on the left of the steering wheel rather than one.

Assuming that you have indeed given the RADAR sensor (below the front bumper on a 2016 car) a good clean I'm not sure what else can be done beyond taking it to a dealer.  A 2016 car should still be under warranty, so any fault should be theoretically be covered.

thanks for quick reply iriches. I wish if it was still in warranty..first registration was 25th April 2016..but the problem is mileage..it is over the 60k miles..so warranty should expires I believe. there are no two stalks on the left. it's only one. I can see the RADAR sensor there..but my question is why diagnostic pulling up that Adaptive cruise control instead of just Front assist. would that be ideal to try to take the sensor off and give it a clean. Wondering if somebody ever did it.

Could it be previous owner messed with the coding and tried to enable something that was not there?

I also thought so but this car was owned by Volkswagen Financial Services from the new and I am owning it as 2nd keeper.

Possible - but it may just be a generic error message, as both ACC and Front Assist use the same sensor.

There's some info on the thread linked to below which indicate that a mis-aligned sensor or a clumsy front wheel alignment (and thus steering wheel out-of-sync with the system) could cause similar errors.  Did you buy privately or from a dealer?  If from a dealer I'd be asking them to have a look...

That almost certainly means it was a lease car.

As you presumably bought it from a dealer or a trader (ie not private) then it is covered by the Consumer Rights Act 2015

Contact the seller and inform them of the fault and their obligations, ultimately you can reject the car and get a refund.

Thanks xman.. i bought it from a trader in Northampton and they are trying to help me as well..but the thing is they are in Northampton and I am in London. So just to avoid hassle if I can sort it out myself you know, i can keep the car. i don't want to travel 200miles(round trip) and leave the car with them to fix. they said me to find somebody who can fix it and let them know how much it may cost prior to the repair.

If the radar unit is in the lower grill, what usually happens is it get hit by something and then sits skew wiff. It is mounted on a bracket, IIRC on some spring loaded adjusting screws. It may be stuck and just needs springing back into position, or the bracket may be bent in which case at worst a new bracket.

After checking this, if you still have problems, go to your local Skoda dealer and get a quote, note they may say they need to run a diagnostic at £80 or so pounds before they can price it up. You may need to put the trader in touch with the dealer in that case.

Nice one xamn. but how to fix the adaptive cruise control thing. I think some previous people did play with it and got adaptive cruise control enabled..

does anyone know how to disable adaptive cruise control by obd11?

Thats not your problem but the trader's problem.

It may be generic fault message. Ask your Skoda dealer for a price to fix and pass to trader.

I have Front Assist but not Adaptive Cruise and also see this error. There is nothing to sort around the Adaptive Cruise, that's just what controller the "front assist restricted view" message is stored under since they both use a similar radar unit (I think there are some slight differences, so ACC isn't a software enable).

You should only see the restricted error if either the front assist sensor is dirty, obscured by an object, or you've been driving close to other cars and it can't work out what is going on in front of you.

How frequently do you get it? Is it every time you drive? Once or twice a week for me isn't unheard of, but anything more than a couple of times every now and again probably suggest something isn't right. For me it's also important what is going on at the time of it showing.

It generally doesn't happen on open, quiet roads where the sensor has a clear, open view in front of the car and it can work out what's ahead. It's usually on busy roads, in adverse conditions, following other cars etc.
