Car Jack at wrong place

Featured Replies

Hi Everyone

I recently went to a garage for puncture repair. When I came back home I noticed something under the car where he put jack. Something damaged, may be sill. Can anyone please tell me if it's serious? I'm attaching the picture here.

Thanks

The jack has removed the underseal.

Very careless and easily avoided.

You can buy underseal from Halfords and patch it up yourself, to keep the water and dirt away from the exposed metal.

I'd have been straight back to the tyre fitter to complain though.

Thanks sliver1011 and chrisgreen. I'm relieved it's not critical but I'll be careful next time. I've seen underseal online. It looks spray typr so will try myself.

I have had a tyre fitter put the trolley jack under a seam and suffered similar damage on previous cars. I am particular now and always ensure when I have punctures repaired or tyres fitted I tell the tyre fitter not to jack under the sill. In 5 years with my Roomster I have not had that damage. They should place rubber doughnuts on the jack as one tyre fitter stated to avoid metal to metal contact

Slosh plenty of waxoil over the bare patch, and keep an eye on it. Trying to add underseal could be counter-productive unless you get it to perfectly seal against the existing stuff it may simply trap water and cause corrosion.
