Hi, Posting this on behalf of my dad who's having problems with his 2007 Skoda Octavia estate.

 

For the past few months he says the trip computer keeps resetting & that sometimes the time clock also resets. He has also said that the past few days he's noticed today that some of the lights on the dash display staying on & flickering for a few seconds after the ignition has been switched off/key removed.

 

He says that the car runs perfectly although he says it does take a while to start every so often, I asked him if he felt it was the battery but he doesn't seem to think so as it's less than a year old & he said he's run checks on it & it seems to be holding charge & everything. Aside from this everything else on the car is working perfectly apparently.

 

Any ideas?

Get it scanned with VCDS or similar to check for fault codes.

 

 

Also check the wiring to the instrument cluster as TPI 2035679/1 mentions there is potential for damaged wiring to cause issues.

It's most likely to be the instrument cluster as mentioned by langers2k. I've had the same issue. Other than that, the easiest check would be getting your dad to measure the voltage on the battery. I know you mentioned that it's a new battery, but it might still be low on charge.
