Fabia VRS soundproofing

Featured Replies

I’ve had my 2011 Fabia VRS now for just over 6 weeks now, really enjoy driving it, it has exceeded my expectations, performance in particular is staggering, much better than the 1.9tdi VRS I owned for almost 5 years. I like the 2 faced character of the car inasmuch as using the performance is a really adrenaline pumping experience but when driven gently it’s as smooth and refined as a limo. The only slight fly in the ointment is the level of road noise, which is the most prominent noise with the engine being virtually silent when cruising below 2500-3000rpm. Can anyone give me any tips on reducing the road noise level, the only thing I’ve done so far is to put a layer of felt under the spare wheel. As all the tyres on my car are virtually brand new perhaps changing to a make/model of tyre with a lower noise rating is probably not going to be an option for probably a couple of years down the line. Has anyone got any tips on how to deaden the road noise a bit from their own experience ?

Thanks for that, I doubt I will go quite as far as the guy who started that thread, think I’ll probably concentrate on the boot floor and wheel well and under the rear seats, spotted some self adhesive sound insulating pads on Amazon with good user reviews, not too expensive either. May also get a tailored rubber boot floor liner which should help a bit as well, save the boot carpet from muddy golf trolley wheels too :-) From previous experience I know if I reduce road noise then the next most prominent noise starts to rear it’s head, probably wind noise, thankfully the engine is very quiet when cruising.
