Picked up a LE last night, silly questions

Featured Replies

How do..

I picked up a tsi LE last night

89k miles. Very very pleased with it..  Lovely and clean, the wheels already changed to some team dynamics monza wheels, I don't like the colour but I can live with it.

Ill get some pics up later and I'll add it to the LE thread.

Couple silly questions..  On the dash digital display it has the speed in km/h(small at bottom) I've been through the dash menu but can't see where to change it to mph.. Or whether you can or not.. All mpg and average speed etc is mph

Can I change it if so how?

The other question is the stereo.. I don't have multi function steering wheel,  but in menu setting of stereo it says and has ticked. Bluetooth activated, but in the aux menu Bluetooth music I'd greyed out.. Do I have Bluetooth or not. If I do how do I connect

Thanks everyone.

I have a small list in my head appearing about what I want to do to the car

Pete

The way to get mph displayed on the maxidot dash is to get it changed over to Australian with VCDS.

Check under the driver's seat to see if you have a Bluetooth module installed.

Ahh will check. Easy to spot under the seat?

If I dant can it be retro fitted onto my stereo?

As said you change the maxidot to the Australian version using VCDS or Clarista, this will give you the big MPH dsiplay in the middle, the KPH reading is there to satisfy european vehicle construction and use laws.

  • Author

ahh okay. ill have to find someone that can do it for me

thanks

The reason for the display in km/ hr is the European requirement to display road speed in km/h and mph. Skoda choose not to use the conventional way, of diplaying both scales around the speedo.

If you go to Eire or the Continent remember to swap back again to meet local trafic laws.

As standard the car came with rebadged team dynamic monza's and they were like chocolate fireguards, soft as you like and flatted and bent easily. (Big thread on here years ago about them.)

The Bolero came without Bluetooth but as already said can be found under the seat if retrofitted. If it ain't there - yes, it can be retro fitted and is something you can do at home.

I had one, loved it apart frm the wheels which we swapped out for Zenith's IIRC, sold it and regretted it everyday - but hey ho c'est la vie!

Recently sold my LE and regret it, was a great car and yes the LE wheels are crap, took mine off as soon as I bought it and put on some BBS speedlines, when I took them off I found 2 had been welded from cracks, would never touch those wheels again, nice little upgrade I did was to fit auto headlights, nice easy plug and play for about 30 quid and looked factory.

Also fitted an Android factory type fit stereo that looked just like the Bolero but had every function you would need and it worked well, again plug and play 10 min fit.

Other little mods that are subtle is the VRS seat pull alloy covers and VRS puddle lights for the doors, about a fiver for each, also changed the gearknob to a leather and alloy S5 one as I hate the shape of the VRS one.

I offered to buy the car back in the future if the new owner keeps it in good condition.

Thanks for the replies everyone

I'll have to hunt down blue tooth unit then, is there a write up anywhere how and what to get?

I have the original wheels in the shed, I'll leave the monzas on the car, is it worth selling the originals. One is buckled

We also at weekend picked up a 211k one owner fabia vrs for the wife so my mate now calls us the skudlies...

I don't really want to change to android stereo as I like the air Con etc coming on the screen so blue tooth is the way forward

Aircon and doors etc still come on the screen also other info too that the Bolero doesn't display, also works with the right hand stalk still to skip tracks and radio stations.

To be honest for what it will cost you to add BT you would be about the same price as the recent Android stereos.

Does it!?!?! OK I'm interested.. Where is link would love to see one working and how it works then!! How does it link into these systems. Who's done it!

I've done it, it is truly plug and play, pop off the surround 4 screws pull out old stereo and disconnect, reconnect OE connectors but the double Fakra needs rotating 180 degrees, connect wifi aerial GPS antenna that comes with it and I also added a USB lead for charging and mirror link and ran it to the bottom cubby. It's honestly a 10 min job and the CANBUS is built into the system.

A lot of them are fiddly but this one is a doddle, comes with Torque pro as well that you can connect an ELM Bluetooth module in the OBD port, you can also connect your phone at the same time with BT and it will download your contacts, supports Apple and Android phones.

Plus it looks like a Bolero https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Octa-core-Android-8-0-Car-Stereo-for-SKODA-OCTAVIA-Bluetooth-GPS-SatNav-DAB-4G/113025288569?fits=Model%3AOctavia&epid=3019968446&hash=item1a50d50979:g:2rsAAOSwctJb9QSJ

I also added a dashcam for 15 quid just USB one self powered, it can record to the SD card that comes with it that also has the built in Sat Nav software on it, it loops and deletes when full, the 2 bottom buttons are actually covers for the SD cards, left one is the Sat Nav, right one is for music, takes up to 64GB micro.

Bluetooth calling is very good, it has 2 built in microphones but also comes with an external if you wish, you can also add a reverse camera.

I had mine boot up with the Skoda logo and then had VRS background wallpaper.

Okay that looks cool. Do you have to program for the normal features like the air con to come up or does it do that from the off.? What extra info comes up that isn't in stock one? These just Iver ride the normal screen?

How long does it take to boot up, same as standard?

Really interested in one of these!!!

Thanks for the info..

No the info comes up automatically whenever you adjust aircon or open a door, it also shows car info on an app, washer level, seat belts, amount of fuel and other things I forget.

Takes about 30 seconds to boot.

The only thing you have to do is swap the doors over as it's set for LHD so when you open the drivers door it shows passenger but that's easy in the factory settings to do, I'll run you through a few things if you get one.

I don't I sold it 2 weeks ago and I am already regretting it, 2 years of trouble free motoring, don't know what I was thinking when I sold it to be honest although I had only done about 12k in 2 years so it wasn't getting used enough for a diesel, although it went to a nice couple who are expecting their first child so I felt good knowing it was a good car for them and safe.

I'm now tooling around in this..........

Ha proper gangster... Looks cool

Thanks for the info I'll be sorting as soon as funds allow

That is a very nice LE and low number as well, very late pre FL, as it has the older front and rear ends, but the slightly more modern dash and interior, another mod worth doing is fitting a multi function steering wheel, makes certain functions on the stereo easier to use.

Yeah nice and low, i am very pleased the more i drive it, were some LE's facelifts?

Is it just fit steering wheel and get it coded? or is wiring etc needed? / possible to fit a mk3

thanks

Pete

No you need a new steering wheel module that supports the multi function and coding, yes it's possible to fit a MK3 steering and has been done, just do a search through, off hand i can't remember who has done it.

I don't know if any LE's were facelifts, again may be worth looking through the register, i'd like one my self but insurance would be through the roof as i live in south east london, with a SE postcode (not good for insurance)

All 500 were PFL, 200 petrol hatches, 200 diesel hatches and 100 diesel estates.
