MK2 headlight base adjustment

Featured Replies

I've notice my driver's side

headlight isn't correctly sat in position ( all locked in position) I think the base plate needs adjusting. Has anybody done this and how difficult is it to do? It's the left side of the light where it meets the wing it's just sat on the inside and not flush.

Thanks in advance

If it's the same as the pre facelift Mk2 it's a doddle to move.

I did mine to make it fit better after someone reversed into me with quite a bump, and moved the bumper a little too.

Take the light out (as said, if same as pfl) and have a look. Just a few star screws iirc.

You may need to realign your beam though afterwards so if you park and check where your beam is before you start you should be able to realign it yourself, or at least just to check it, once you are happy with the fit of the unit to the bodywork.

If you're moving the headlight base, it'll move the headlight so you'll need to get the headlight aim readjusted.

The xenon AFS system cannot adjust for the headlight being moved :)

Your right mate just need to adjust it because it doesn't sit flush. I've just tried to move it and can't seem to sit it correctly. Lost my patience with it lol

I noticed now on several of these FL models that the headlight is not perfectly aligned, mine included sadly. Does adjusting the base provide a lot of adjustment? Mine's all over the place to be honest.

I've tried to adjust the base plate and struggled to get the headlights back into position which is a nightmare just noticed the bonnet is touching it now FFS

Took a bit of patience and trial n error to get mine as best as i could............as said pre fl tho and not Xenon.

I took the Xenon's out of my A4 a number of times tho as had issues with contacts on the high beam actuator solenoid. Never had an issue refitting these to fit nice though but they didn't have a base-plate to faff around with.

The beam and everything is ok it's just the base plate the light isn't in the best position does look right. I will have another try at the weekend

By the sound of it, maybe I shouldn't mess with it ;)
