Dealer offers £8k Trade In need your opinion

Featured Replies

Hi,

I am looking to change my car as I do over 90 miles a day traveling to work and back and I am looking to purchase a ford focus 2018 plate diesel st line 1.5 engine and the cost is £14500 for the car and I purchased mine brand new at £16400 in November 2012. They have offered £8k trade in for mine against the focus and I just wondered if you think this is a decent offer or not.

My car had done 38000 miles and has full dealer service history the car is in good condition only 1 kurb mark on one alloy wheel and a couple of small scratches on rear passenger side door and the dealer knows about this.

Forgot to mention alloy wheels could do with a repaint as they are starting to show there age.

Here are a couple of pictures.

Have you checked the on line car buyers' offers for your car?

Gives you an idea about market value.

Have they given you a price for the Focus without trading in your car?. If not then ask.

The average price across multiple sites for the value is around £8300 -£8450 but that price would not doubt reduce to around £8k as they will take money off for alloys and chips plus the scratches on the rear door.

I have been looking for a silver st line diesel 1.5  for a little while as the choice of diesels is super low and I have looked at a lot of garages in Scotland but there are loads of the 1.0 ecoboost st lines but not the 1.5 diesels.

The car is 200 miles away from me near Bradford but compared to prices here for example the same year of car here in Arnold Clarke was £16200 for an 18 plate 5k miles and the same car is £14500 in a ford dealer in bradford.

I bought my vrs in preston in 2012 as it was £1800 cheaper than any  dealer in Scotland.

I'd be tempted to pay for a full valet and stick it on eBay and Gumtree for a week or two, see how much interest you get...

I recommend sing Tootle.

https://www.tootle.co.uk/

We used them last year when we sold the wife’s BMW 120d coupe. Even though it was great condition less the minor scratch the dealers and car buying websites weren’t going any decent offers. I was going to stick it eBay but was then told about Tootle where car traders make offers on your car. First week wasn’t great with just the associated companies putting in low offers but still better than We Buy Any Car. The second week there was new, much higher offers. I agreed an offer from someone in Lincolnshire, arranged to pick him up from the train station and by the time I’d got home to show him the car and go through the history the money was already in my bank account.

Tootle rate your advert and suggest prices along with how to improve your ad. I was told by the person who had suggested Tootle to me to take as many photos as possible, highlighting any damage and include details such as tyre depths etc. The buyer confirmed it was the details in the advert that swung it between our car and another which was much closer to him.

It's 7 years old.... I'd take the $8k.  It seems a lot.
