Very strange fault..?

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

I've just had a very strange fault which happened and then disappeared when I went in to to get my scanner. The car is a 2013 Superb 1.6 tdi.

Car was fine all day - when I came back to it there was a fault with the AFS system and start/stop (this displayed on the maxidot). None of my lights worked either (headlights and indicators) and there was some strange buzzing from different areas behind the dash.

I don't have VAGCOM with me at the moment so will be plugging it in tomorrow. The car seemed to correct itself after a while but it was very strange.

Any ideas? I'm expecting a no comms or BCM issues maybe?

Thank you.

Battery?

Could well be John. I've never had an issue with any lazy starts or it going flat at all.

I've just returned from Germany after leaving it sat for 2 weeks but I've done 300 miles since so not really sure what's going on.

It's the strange buzzing and stop start issue that's making me think that

I'd be inclined to agree with you - I had the same with my car (a 2014 1.6 TDI as well) the day after I took delivery. It had been a showroom and demo car for 9 months, having its battery drained in the showroom and had periods where it was left standing.

Driving it +200 miles made no difference - once that battery is on its way out or has been deeply discharged once or more, its toast. The issue repeated if the car was left more than 6 to 8 hours

Had the dealer replace it as soon as I could and that sorted it. The factory batteries aren't the best - if this 2013 is on it original then its already done better than most.

Anything done to it recently - even if it seems unrelated?

I've fit my dash cam and wired it into a spare ignition live slot in the fuse box. I did that about a month ago. I'm going to have a good look tomorrow and will update.

Thank you for your time guys.

Check for any disturbed earths

Also are you sure the dashcam has been connected to an ignition switched live?

Hi John - no further updates today unfortunately, parenting got in the way.

It's definitely an ignition live as I tested it with my meter - I added an earth behind a support bolt so haven't disturbed any others.

Research on other forums also points towards a bad battery as you suggested. I'll hopefully get chance this week to plug it in and see what faults I get.
