DSG display showing flashing spanner (Superb Mk 2)

Featured Replies

My 8 year old Superb Mk2 (had it from new) has started showing a flashing spanner over the DSG 7 speed gearbox in the MFD but the handbook is extremly vague on this and I could find no information elsewhere.

The annual service is due in about 50 days but a specific service reminder always appears beforehand so I don't think the flashing spanner relates to this.

I therefore thought it might mean a gearbox oil change is required as this is not part of the annual service, although it was changed 5 years ago when Skoda advised to replace the synthetic gearbox oil with mineral oil.

Can anyone confirm what this means?

Thanks

Neil

So you aren't getting the text "Service Now" each time you turn on the ignition?

I think it is the flashing wrench that appears at the same spot as the current gear is usually shown.

See video here on a Golf:  Golf Mk6 DSG Spanner display

AFAIK, it indicates that a fault is being reported in the mechatronic unit of the DSG....?

@Skoffski might know, he's had a lot of experience using DSG autos....

With the Mk2 Fabia vRS the 'Flashing White Spanner' appears on the cars with a DQ200 DSG that was registered late 2012 and which did not require Service Campaign '34F7' so the Synthetic Oil replaced with mineral & the Software Update.

A not the 3013-2015 DQ200 that required Service Campaign '34H5' the Software Update.

These DQ200's that Skoda / VW said needed neither have been failing in greater numbers recently.

So since the car had '34F7' carried out, and supposing done correctly and not just the oil change but also the software update chase up Skoda.

They will say not interested, down to the Dealership, Warranty Expired etc.

But then they did a World Wide recall which excluded Europe, and in other World Regions extended the warranty.

** Is the Service Campaign Sticker in the Spare Tyre well and was the Software Update done not just the oil change and is it recorder on the Skoda System?*

It should not appear here as outstanding if done as a Service Campaign'.

Its was not just Advice to change the Oil, it was an Agreed Voluntary Recall Action between VW and the VOSA now DVSA in 2013.

Started in 2014 in the UK.

Do not let anyone without experience mess about with the DSG.

See the pinned threads in the Fabia Mk2 Section and 3 threads running there in the past 4 days.

Flashing spanner  means your transmission control module logged some static or intermittent  errors. Before making any conclusions you will need to read those TCM error codes either with VCDS or OBDeleven or any other solution capable to read vag's transmission modules. More likely you will see some hydraulic pressure related errors which will most likely lead to mechatronic unit replacement. dont ignore flashing spanner go to diagnostic asap

@LevL Welcome to the forum.

Hopefully the member has sorted things out in the past near 2 years.

A pity they never came back to say how they got on with things.
