Upgrading Lights on Early MK3 Octavia vRS

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Was wondering if anyone can point me in right direction.

I'm looking to replace my number plate lights & interior lights on my mk3 Octavia vRS.

The lights supplied with the car are of a older, yellowish design (poor description, but I hope you get the idea).

I want to fit newer, leds to both the interior and number plate lights.

Cheers

Matthew

It's a nice upgrade, I did the same to my facelift estate (non VRS).

I think the main variance is whether you have a Panoramic roof or not, if you do some of the bulbs (rear interior I think) are different. Interior bulbs aren't monitored by CANBUS so it's a simple swap out.

These are the ones I fitted to the interior and glovebox (I don't have a panoramic roof):

(Premium retrofit, 3 packs)

There are cheaper alternatives which are probably fine, but I figured I'd go for a good brand.

And for the boot:

I'm fairly sure you could just get another pack of the Osrams for the boot but these were a straight swap and super bright.

EDIT:

And if you do have a panoramic roof, you need two less of the first lot, and a couple of "festoon" bulbs instead:

I upgraded all the interior bulbs with the osram led bulbs that uchuff linked to, including the boot lights and glovebox light.  Just double check the lights work after you fit the new bulb and if they don’t just turn them through 180 degrees

Be aware you'll need to code LED number plate bulbs in with Vag Com, or you'll get a warning on your dash saying they're not working.

I used these for my number plate lights, it doesn't say they are for Octavia III on the site but it does on the packaging when they arrived. https://www.skoda-parts.com/spare-part/000052110-led-number-plate-lights-skoda-25075.html

Under £20.00 the pair including postage which took 4 days.

As for interior there are numerous options available, I would go for something with the original size base as some of the lED's have a printed circuit board thick base, which in my opinion can stretch the springs. Some go for branded some don't, there are so many out there have a look at the W5W 501's on amazon and pick what suits you best, other sellers are available. https://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_2?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=501+led's
