What happens when the GPS cannot get a fix, so the car doesn't know where it is and cannot determine the speed limit?

Limit the car to 20mph? - that wouldn't go down well with other drivers and be potentially lethal on a motorway.

Limit to the NSL?

No limit?

Have the regulators thought through the safety issues when the system malfunctions? - probably not...

Even worse

My reading of it from the original article I saw is that it will be a warning system rather than a limiter. Still going to be annoying to have an alarm going off during an overtaking manoeuvre.

It also assumes that speed limits have been set based on risk assessments which I doubt is the case somehow.

No need to be concerned, the UK will soon no longer be part of the EU!

You will still be able to exceed the speed limit while eating a bent banana.

My Karoq already has this technology,

Side note... which would prefer an M24 to Cahir or M20 to get to Cork?

:D

I think that means that existing models in production will have to have technology fitted by 2024, rather then existing cars currently on the road. Although the article states new models must have the technology in 2022, it doesn't say when this technology will be actually used. I wonder whether motorcycles will have this technology?

The BBC now reporting this story. The EU wants to reduce road deaths to zero by 2050. There are around 1700 Road deaths in the UK a year and about 25% are believed to be speed related, so 75%are not speed related.

Not sure how this new technology will work, but if you drive in a 60mph limit and the road is sheet ice with freezing fog and visibility of a few yards you will still be able to drive at 60?

If the EU Car Manufacturers can have the Technology further developed in all passenger cars in 3 years then great the EU Commissioners and heads of State or Government will be happy.

That will need to be in all vehicles at all price points.

The chance of that is zero.

Time that the EU actually just got on with the implementation of the Emissions Reductions, green technology that works all the time out on roads and not just on roads under test conditions.

They will then need to get on with the prohibition of the modification of vehicles from the Spec they were Type Approved under, so to Factory Spec when driven,

and when tested at annual checks or when ever.

Plugged into the OBD and put on weigh bridge / scales at tests, roadside or test centres, noise tests, tyres checked to Type Approval / WLTP / RDE spec.

The only way that will happen is to ban everyone from going outside, ever!

Germany are in the perfect position to lead the way and make sure that German owned car manufacturers lead the way.

The VW Group are the biggest car manufacturer in the world so they just need to catch up with the tech that many others have as standard.

They just need to impose their will on the EU and change legislation in Germany ASAP.

No plans for the EU to develop any software to stop bicycles going through red lights.

I would like to buy one of these as a Town / City transport.

There is so much difference across Europe / EU on Driving Licences and vehicles that can be driven / ridden and ages etc.

In the UK the DfT & others are flying kites about changes in Traffic Laws and 'electric stand on scooters', Skateboards etc.

Hahahah!! ****!  "... but the road was dusty – that might be why the driver lost control"  Yeah, like the driver didn't boot it down the road showing off and lost it.

Edit: so you can't say "****" on this forum??!  I've got an uncle called ****. What if I wanted to mention what my Uncle **** did last weekend?  Really!

We discussed this one in the forum last year.

In a world already with an unsustainable population, and more problems worsening due to an ever-increasing population, with overcrowding, housing shortages and massive drains on public resources, they want to stop even more people from dying??!!

Yeah, OK. Makes sense....

Those mini hot rods look fun, at least in dry, sunny weather.

Just imagine if Road Legal in the UK.

Current Moped / Scooter NEDS / crimes would be the least of worries.

If they are introduced it will be the usual knee-jerk reaction by politicians who don't know the facts or understand the issues but have been 'lobbied'...
