Occasional creak from front suspension

Featured Replies

Hi,

Our 2014 TSI combi has developed an occasional creak over the last few months, only really heard when going over speed humps slowly. I'd say that it is coming from the near side. If it was a Ford, I'd say that it was the suspension bushes seeing as they are almost consumables (but, to be fair, cheap and easy to replace) in my experience but is it likely to be the same thing on the Fab?

It's just (this week) passed its MOT with no advisories so there can't be much play in the suspension; I checked for broken springs just before the MOT and they were all fine, too.

Where should I look or should I just put it down to it being dry of late?

Thanks in advance.

What's the mileage? If it's a creak, then ARB bushes. If it develops onto a clunk, drop links, lower balljoint or wishbone bushes.

Drop links are known to fail and Meyle HD ones are a good replacement. Cheaper then genuine, 4 year warranty!

ARB bushes on mine. You can

1) spray some silicon WD40 on them and it will stop for a short period of time,

2) replace them with some powerflex bushes maybe

3) I took them off and used some grease on the inside. It worked ok for 2 years, a month ago with the cold weather they started to creek a little but not too much.

Apologies for late response.

To answer the question, the car has done about 40k, possibly 45. I don't know at I never manage to notice what it is when it is displayed.

It's definitely a creak and not a clunk so I'll try the silicone wd40 approach to see if that isolates it.

Thanks for the responses.
