MIB? with Bolero

I see a lot of references to MIB1 & MIB2 but can someone clarify what these refer to? 

 

I have a 2010 vehicle with a Bolero but I can't figure whether stuff to do with MIB is applicable or not.

 

Also, I believe I have a Maxidot display but it doesn't seem to have the full range of functions people soemtimes mention.

Maxidot functions can be enables or disabled in the infotainment menus depending on what is coded/fitted on the car.  Have a dig maybe in diplay or settings I think.

If you have MIB system in your car it will likely be MIB1 at that age.  MIB systems have a separate head unit in the glovebox and the screen in the dash is just that.  Bit like a desktop pc.

If you dont have a separate glovebox unit then it is likely the older version of bolero.  I am not familiar with those but I'm sure someone who is will be along shortly.

The Yeti never got 'upgraded' to the later MQB platform so it never had a split headunit like the MIB1 or MIB2.

 

However, in 2015 it did receive the MIB STD2 PQ headunit which is similar in UI to the MIB1/MIB2 but is a single unit. This uses component protection so it's not a super easy retrofit I'm afraid.

 

What functions do you think you're missing in the maxidot? You'd probably only get track info and the ability to change radio station with a Bolero fitted.
