auto trunk open

I've heard a lot of concerns about these over stressing the locking mechanism when shut leading to premature failure - would be interested to hear if anyone has had them in a few years?

Also heard stories about causing the window to shatter due to the additional stress on the frame but not verified.

I got a set from ebay for my estate. Work really nicely, but they really do creak every single time i open or close the boot.

Anyone else buy them? anyone else have creaking?

No creaking but when they were loose they would clang as they fell down the piston rod, they are now covered with and retained in place by rubber self amalgamating tape which moves with their change in length.

Very cheap from this supplier and plenty left over for spares or for your friends:

@JohnnyType2 Can you explain how they damage things?  Not denying it just want to know.  My struts are on the way out and looking at heavy duty replacements and came across these a few times.

I should probably go outside and look at the mounting points myself but if you have seen the issue first hand....

stress of the closed spring puts on the strut and mounting, i have seen damage on the mounting bent away from the pillar on a hatch.

Thanks.  Assuming the heavy duty versions of struts have a lower static force in their compressed state?  Therefor a bit safer to use.  Or would you just replace with oem?
