Locked octavia bonnet

Featured Replies

The bonnet on my octavia will not open with the release handle. I have been told to cut away part of my radiator grille - but how much and where?

Are you certain that its not a broken release handle?

If so then that can be operated with 2 pairs of pliers to release the bonnet. - Mine broke.

What is the 7 type vehicle in your profile picture?

@skwbydoo - It's not the most positive or easiest to use release I've ever encountered.

Biting the bullet tomorrow - taking a saw to the radiator grille - just not sure where to cut

Is it the bonnet catch to open the bonnet up, or the one in the cabin to release it wont work?

It is the one to open up the bonnet - i have now opened up two holes on the grille for my hands but still cannot get bonnet to release - please what am I missing?

Okay.. so, you pull the bonnet lever in the cabin, it goes "kedunk" and pops up about an inch?

But then the lever lock under the bonnet wont rotate to let it up?

@skwbydoo any chance of a pic?

When I pull the lever nothing happens and the bonnet stays tightly shut - I will try to get a picture tomorrow

Okay...

Is the cable attached and moving at the cabin end? Start with the obvious i spose..

This might help figure out where things are and how connected..

Thank you for exploded diagram it may help

now for a question - please bear with me

i wouldn’t know about this problem if my battery had not run flat - is there any reason these two things could be linked? or was it just been circumstances ?

Circumstances, in that the flat battery was why you tried to open the bonnet.

Actually, I've had another thought. Try a shot of a proper dismantling lubricant like PlusGas (other brands are available, but don't bother trying something like WD-40) and wait 10 minutes then try and open it.

You see part 24 in Mac's exploded diagram; that's also awkward to make work right.

I just had to ask as it was the reason I wanted to open the bonnet. Will be trying again this morning as at present I have a dead car and live 5 km from any shops , etc so I must sort out car. The diagram is a help.

Yes, that the point. You decided to open the bonnet because the battery is flat, rather than the bonnet being locked down because the battery is flat.

That is my point - I had never had the problem before so I just had to ask but have now cut holes in front grille but still can’t release bonnet

Providing the exploded diagram to help identify a position from which the cable could be pulled down closer to the latch mechanism was my point..

Are all the points pointed now?

:D

could you sneak a hook through the right most gap in the crash beam onto the cable, and pull it? I cant remember where the cable route actually goes, over or under the body frame.
