is it a straight fit or would i have to buy some cables?

You can drop in any HU you like. You are going to need additional harness though: Clicky, which has quadlock to iso and the inline aerial booster. On the top of that it must be either CAN-BUS capable or switched live in order to break the feed into the HU once the ignition switched off. If you don't do this, the radio will drain your battery.

that really does sound complicated.

i have just got that wire, will be here shortly but how do i do the live wire thingy?

How old is your car? If it is a pre FL you may have problems with the Can bus compatibility.

it was made 2008

You could look here: Wire . I know it's the MkI but MkII should be similar.
I've used one of the compatible connects2 harness (got it secondhand), it kills the stereo on key removal but when I want to listen to it with the engine off and key in the barrel, I never know how long it keeps the radio on (it goes out even the key no touched after a while). Other than that it works 100%.
