Got mine out of the garage today for the first time since October...   Started with next to no cranking on Sunday and whilst there was a bit of a gearbox rattle as I reversed out of the garage (weeping rear crank oil seal) the run into work today was fine once the brakes had scrubbed a bit (they were a bit wooden to start with).

Looking forward to summer!

The only downside is that when I taxed it on Saturday I realised I'd forgotten to SORN it last year - so hoping I won't get a stonking great fine from the DVLA!

The car feels really sharp to drive, except for the throttle pedal, which had loads of movement before it did anything!

IMG_4264.JPG

luckily its easily adjustable, instant response now on the tiniest touch of the throttle pedal :) (you can see how much slack I took up!)

Easy adjustment - keep things simple! 😍

think that was the problem, wipers never used! passed its MOT with them like that, but they probably only washed the screen! lol..

had the front wheel off for a puncture, took some pics of the work done to the chassis leg! you could get your fist in above the anti roll bar mount, and they had to go right up into the arch too! 😮

anyone who hasn't driven one of these should, just come back from work in another town,,, about a 9 mile drive down back country roads, and the car is awesome, I LOVE the fact you really have to wring its neck to get decent performance, 5-7,500 k all the way! makes a great noise, NO understeer at all, such perfect steering, brakes up to the job, no fade... it just handles SO well.....

They good are they? Might have to try one.

I remember doing a track day some time ago that included a drive with an instructor in a Lotus Elise...   he was clearly a fan of the MX5 and was adamant that the Mk1 was the better car - which is a surprise given the reputation the Elise gets!

My mum and dad had a 1.6 mx5 quite a few years ago and they left it with me when they went on holiday to keep it ticking over. They never left it with me again, I used it for everything, they are fantastic cars.

They just go to prove that you don't need huge amounts of power to have fun

"you're not a true petrol head unless you have owned an Alfa".  ******! You're not a true petrolhead until you've owned a MX5.

Fortunately for @sharkrider he's covered all bases, as I'm likely very wrong

Not sure how true this is but it's something I've read in the past...apparently when Porsche engineers were tasked with creating the Boxster, the MX5 was mentioned as the benchmark for which they had to beat.  If it's true, then high praise indeed.

When mine were that age they used to sit in their car seat next to me when I was taking them to nursery shouting 'faster daddy - go faster"

I will be back out in it if we do get some decent weather, being in Cumbria , I'm just not too optimistic! lol.... I keep it taxed and insured all year , MOT is due end of march , confident with it due to the massive rust work recently undertaken lol... I may redo brake lines and fuel lines under the car, thats the next job i think!
