Felicia rear window regulator

Having a bit of bother with the rear window regulator on my pre-facelift '98 Felicia estate.

 

The window won't stay up of its own accord (slips down) and the winder just slips when wound, which leads me to think it's the regulator.

 

Problem is, I can't seem to find another regulator locally (most Felicias have long-since departed the scrapyards in a more, shall we say, cubic form). Even Ebay is lacking this time around.

 

Does anyone know if the rear window regulator on the Felicia is interchangeable with other cars (Octavias, Fabias, Polos, Golfs)? I'd probably be able to find one of those easy enough.

 

I'd rather fix the issue than solve the problem by bunging in a lump of timber to hold the window up!

I've got a bit of mayo under the oil cap but aside from that, I'm not 100% sure it is/was a head gasket problem. Had an oil pressure warning light problem (which I thought could be related to the head gasket - system full of sludge, etc.) but turns out it was just a blocked oil strainer. It's been behaving itself.

What's your use case like?  If the car rarely to never gets warmed up properly, mayo in the rocker cover can be due to condensation rather than mixing of oil and coolant.

I will have a look for a rear window lifter.

I think the car's previous owner rarely drove it more than a few miles to work, so that stacks up. I'm not especially worried as it's behaving itself. I've been taking it on some prety long journeys fairly regularly. 

 

Someone did remove the thermostat it seems though, which is curious and indicates they were having overheating problems. I haven't replaced it as, like I said, it's behaving and I'm letting sleeping dogs lie.

That would suggest it being over-cooled whilst warming up, which would be another cause of condensation in the rocker cover. It's your car and all, but I would think you should fit a new thermostat.

When the car is running (i.e. with air flowing through the rad and not stopped in traffic) the needle barely leaves the bottom of the temperature gauge. When stopped, it creeps up to around halfway. My issue with replacing the thermostat is that I'd like to know why it was removed in the first place...

 

The car was also laid up for a few weeks before I bought it, so when I picked up on the mayo when I was viewing the car, I didn't give it too much thought.

@Werner-Hedgehog - I can't be certain, but it's a common bodge if you're selling a car with a failed thermostat; just removing it. The thermostat does more than just "stop flow through the radiator until the engine warms up"; it regulates the actual flow to maintain the engine at normal, say mid-gauge, as long as possible, sometimes by reducing the total flow to the radiator.

Checked it out and it's a great resource from which I'll definitely be getting stuff in future. They don't have the window regulator/lifter though.

Might just replace the damn thing and keep an eye on it until I know what's going on.

Get a decent quality part, and I firmly predict faster warm up and normal engine temperatures.

A window regulator is an assembly made of an electric motor and associated parts for a power window.

You say your Felicia has rear power windows ?? Or are you using the term incorrectly? Please clarify.

I thought a regulator was the series of gears and the mechanism in between the winder handle and the cradle for the glass.  Not necessarily just for electric windows.

 

I'm open to correction on that.

 

My own rear windows are manual.
