Is it possible to drive with rear diff removed ?

Featured Replies

Anyone know if it's possible (safe) to remove the rear differntial, leaving the haldex in place and continue to drive the car.

Is it a big job to remove just the diff ?  labour hours etc..

thanks in advance

Cheers

It would mean I can keep the car in use (vital at the moment)  while having the propshaft, rear drive shafts and rear diff checked for problems...

Also if the noise/whining continued it would help isolate the source ??

Having had the rear diff rebuilt less than 12 mnths ago, they said it looked in good condition when stripped, so flushed and cleaned and shimmed it prior to refit. Also haldex completely flushed, new filters...

All was well.

Could a whining speed related noise be caused by the driveshafts...??

cheers
