Rear View Camera....again!

Featured Replies

Noticed today that my rear view camera is seeing more than it used to, that is, I can now see some of the number plate and body work top and bottom.

I'm sure it used to be just a nice clear picture of the rear without anything extra?

Am I mistaken, does everyone see the number plate and bodywork?

Looks like the view when wide view is selected on my Kodiaq, but looks like you don’t have the view/ parking selection menu down the right hand side of the screen.

'Wide View' ? Sounds feasible but I don't know what I might have pressed to get this 'wide view'......?

Sorry not familiar with what the Karoq has but thought it would be the same as Kodiaq and other Skoda’s with menu down side of screen.

Is does seem that I’ve activated the Kodiaq ‘E’ (wide view) option but I don’t know how!

Karoq does not have this side view functions or maybe we can activate somehow?

I don't know what's occurred here but I'm sure that up until today my rear view camera would show a nice, un-distorted clear picture, with the the yellow lines projected themselves as to approximately where the vehicle was going to be.....in fact my wife queried as to whether the car would also know if there was a problem at the side, like a bollard seeing as she'd re profiled a previous vehicle on such a hazard in a Asda car park.......but somehow I've now got this 'wide view' with a much lower resolution picture?

Note; I don't have the automatic parking option.

My rear view camera sees exactly the same as what you posted earlier (registration plate / bodywork) and has done since day 1. SE L spec no parking option

In my electronic manual it’s all in Fig 262 and associated paragraphs. I’ve not checked my SEL as watching the US Masters.

Will check it out tomorrow.

Just finished watching Tigers round so I'm done for tonight! Could be a late one tomorrow!

Where the arrow is on your photo, pointing right and situated on the left-hand-side of the image. Do you get any option when you press this? This usually appears when you can invoke an overlay with additional options and functions.

It may be that if you get that overlay to appear, that there are some settings on it that might alter the view or image in some way.

That brings up the front and rear parking sensor map, no further options, except to return to the camera view.

The Mrs is now not so convinced about the yellow projection lines ever being there but  like me, she is sure the image was a fairly regular one with none of the ‘fish-eye’ effect.

Whilst we’ve only had the motor 5 weeks I’m familiar enough with it to know the camera view had changed.......when seeing the number plate edges yesterday my first reaction was to stop and check the camera was secure / not moving or damaged......the ability to see a good chunk of bumper on a previously owned Toyota was a constant bugbear to me.

The vehicle we had a test drive in didn’t have the reversing camera but my Golf is equipped and the view we used to have was almost the same as the golf but much clearer and vibrant. I was most pleased with the Karoq camera.

At the end of the day it’s not a big deal but it would be nice to have the option to switch views..........perhaps I should have ticked the ‘Park-Assist’ option but at £300 it seemed expensive for something I only paid £35 extra for on the Golf and only ever used it to entertain the grandchildren on a couple of occasions...!

I thought that was it’s only use,to entertain the grandchildren and it’s all I ever used if for like you a couple of occasions and wonder if after paying extra £££  most owners regret wasting their money.

Park assist came as standard on my previous Yeti, and as above used once or twice to amuse the grandkids, certainly wouldn’t pay for it as an option.

I thought wow that brightness/colour/contrast feature on the rear view camera must be another useful function:party:

That's how mine has always been.

I had to go out and take a look, but my viewing area is exactly the same as yours - I hadn't previously noticed the bits of number plate and bodywork. I can't say that it has ever bothered me ......... but it probably will, now!

Anyone know what that cross is for in the top right of the screen?

I suppose being able to see part of the bumper would be useful when reversing upto the tow hitch on a trailer or caravan and so would make sense to be included in the field of view.

It just closes the camera down.....

Thanks - I guessed that would be the case, but I'm reluctant to touch anything in case I can't get back. Am I right in assuming that the camera is restored next time reverse is engaged?

Actually, that was a very good point about the tow-hitch being within the camera view; I hadn't thought of that.

I was asked the same thing and I said what you guys have - "Used it once or twice to amuse passengers but wouldn't have paid for it".

Then someone here made the point that you get the 4 extra PDC sensors on the side of the car with this option (on a Superb anyways) and those also monitor for obstacles. I then realised that while I don't actually use the auto park - I do use/see the warnings from the extra sensors when maneuvering in some of the tight gates and lanes where I live. The warning graphic when parking covers 360 degrees because of them.

Good point about the 12 censors and there is different audio for nr/ and off/side.on my existing car I have to struggle with just a rear view camera, rear censors and audio warnings and mirror warnings for vehicles approaching from side and rear.

It's brilliant - you can easily see the tow ball and seeing the bumper means you can reverse to pretty much exactly the right spot to hitch up directly. And you can do it totally on your own without any outside 'help'!!!

How can the yellow boxes be activated and retrofitted on Karoq? Does it depend on camera and/or infotainment (what if Bolero) ?
Thanks
