Bonnet release

Featured Replies

Good afternoon. Having just checked the oil level and topped up the screenwash in my 2017 Yeti, I found that the bonnet wouldn't close and latch shut. It just sprang back up that inch or two.

Tried pushing the release lever fully home, no indication that anything was moving. Can't see of course, just listening. Sprayed around the release mechanism with wd40, no change. Had a fiddle under the latch plate and managed to detach the release cable from the release mechanism.  Won't do that again. Eventually got it seated back in its housing, and the bonnet is now latched.

Has anyone else had trouble latching the bonnet, or any problems with the release lever?

From the manual.
""Decouple the bonnet support and press into the holder designed to hold it.

Let the bonnet drop into the lock carrier lock from a height of around 20 cm – do not push it in.""

Yes Urrell, that was my first course of action but it just wouldn't latch. I'm now worried about opening it again. It's as if the cable remained tight when the release lever was returned to its closed position, but without a second pair of eyes I just don't know.

I have to drop mine from about 6 inches, don't be tempted to push it down as the bonnet will dent very easily.

Stick a carrot or something tapered in the catch then pull the release, it should drop down and then be gripped tight if its working right. It might just be that the newness hasn't worn off yet.:D

Ah ha! Nice one RickT, I'll try that.

Just acquired a 2017 plate Yeti - tried to open the bonnet but just could not get the under bonnet catch to lift up - is this a known problem with the Yeti ?

I can only find 3 three threads on this, so it doesn't look like a common "problem".

You are pulling the interior cable hard and fully?
And you are pushing the under bonnet catch to one side?

Have now resolved the problem - got a stronger than me neighbour to release the under bonnet catch after 3/4 tries by him.

Found that it had virtually seized up - have now applied a generous amount of silicone grease and worked into the catch lever mechanism but it took over 20 mins of almost constant  rotation before it freed up.

If you get a dealer to print out the service history or do it on-line with ErwinSkoda you will probably find like I myself (whose bonnet catch was equally seized) that the car had only been serviced once or twice and the bonnet had probably never been opened otherwise.

It means that you have a reliable car that has not been mucked around with but might need some maintenance items checking.
