Hi all,

Im new to the forum. I’m going to test drive and buy a 2008 Skoda Octavia VRS TDI DSG Estate on Friday if all is well. It looks in good clean condition and has 33,000 miles on the clock. What should I pay special attention to when test driving? Also has anyone else had experience of same model, age etc and what are common problems to look out for?

Regards

Graham

Welcome!

33,000 miles, in 11 years? That's only 3,000 miles a year which is very, very low. Modern cars, especially diesels don't like lots of short journey's, they're not good for EGR's, DPF's etc.

On a 2008 is could be one of the last PD engines, or the first of the CR engines. The DPF's performed much better on the CR engine, but the age and mileage of the car would suggest it's already due for replacement. Not cheap @ circa £1,000.

If it's the PD170 check to see if it's had the VOSA injector recall. There should be a sticker in the spare wheel well.
