Hose underneath engine / sump

Featured Replies

I happened to look underneath my car today after its service and spotted a hose hanging down. It connects just behing the sump then goes back from there. It might be completely normal but I've never noticed it before. Can anyone confirm? Thanks

That's the wiring for your oil level/temperature sensor, isn't it?

That makes sense thanks. It probably doesnt show very well in the photo but i was surprised how low it loops down close to the ground.

Could do with being higher, it looks quite vulnerable to damage from passing road debris there.

It looks clean, sure there's not a cove to go over it ??

Looking at another forum there doesnt seem to be a cover under the EA888 engines?

I'll jack the car up when I get time and have a closer look

Its the wiring for the oil temp sensor..thats what that block in the sump is....

& if you are worried about to hanging down fit either the Diesel engine "sound insulation" full length engine bay aero tray....or the more expensive VAG skid tray...

Cheers.

I dont like it hanging down, seems like its asking for trouble. I'll try and hook it up somehow.

So the diesel undertray is different to the tsi? I'll have a look for a part number unless you happen to have link?

Yep....its called "sound insulation" as it helps deaden the diesel noise....its basically a full aero cover for the engine bay.....just reuse your existing black small screws..need additional three short bolts for thee rear part of the tray to go into the subframe...& get the one with one or two air ducts as you can get them without....I did a how to guide for the MK7 golf in their forums...basically the same as the Octavia...but just double check...

Perfect. Cheers for the help. Im guessing there are already tapped holes in the subframe ready to accept those 3 bolts? I dont fancy drilling it!

Yes there are....& remember to reuse your old short black bolts everywhere else......

there are also other undertrays which help the aero if you look at that diagram & my how to guides...so if you get the itch....

Just to close this out, I've got the diesel undertray fitted in place of the short petrol type tray. £50 all in, and I'm much happier now the plastic sump and temp sensor is better protected. Cheers for the help.
