Swap VRS for a pickup!

Featured Replies

I have a small issue:sadsmile:

I have just had a bit of a raise at work and it means my car is now costing me more money (it's a company car). The smart option is to swap it for a pick up as there classed as commercial vehicles and would cost me about 50 quid a month. I really wanted a 5 series beemer next but it's a lot to pay when I could have a pickup for peanuts.

I dont suppose anyone knows of any loopholes I could exploit to avoid losing the vrs?

Sorry don't know any loopholes,

but if you change to a pick up, be careful what you choose as some will have commercial vehicles speed limits applied.

ie 60mph on duel carriageways and 50mph on single carriageway roads.

Either go hybrid (I.e. Passat GTE, BMW 330e/530e, Merc E300e/E300de, most Lexus's, Superb facelift apparently, possibly MK4 Octavia?) or go pickup for low BIK tax.

(Or put vRS in wife's name if she happens to earn less and work for the same employer and doesn't already have a company vehicle :D ...long shot I know...)

Speed limit thing for pickups is a very grey area, but yes - the potential is there to be 'done' for 60mph on a single carriageway road or 70mph on a dual carriageway.

My company Ranger Wildtrak technically should be limited to 50 as the unladen weight is over 2040kg, but a 'lesser' specified model would not be...

There's a good article here about the limits:

HTH.

My mate is an accountant and basically you are screwed for cars with tax. A pickup as a commercial vehicle will make a difference but remember it'll be restricted to 60mph.

apparently the rules are changing all the time which make hybrids a poor buy this year but will be much better next year.

It doesn't make sense. Buy a 40k pickup that will kill a baby penguin every time its started but pay little to no tax on it or buy a car that will return 50mpg from a smaller engine and pay through the nose!!

It's really annoying me as I hate how pickups drive. I've now driven a l200, navara and the ranger. There all horrible.

Funny thing is that the VW Bi-Turbo Diesel LGV engine as in the Pickup and Minibuses / Vans is in the most expensive 'Sporty' Skoda as in the Kodiaq vRS.

Not that the 300 in the UK are selling like Hot Cakes other than to VW / Skoda UK.

The bi-turbo in the VW amarok is dreadfully slow from what I read online. The 3.0 v6 is the one to go for apparently

Just £43,000 & £48,000 RRP's on the 256ps ones

and a bargain £34,000 or £38,700 on the 204ps....

The amount of Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV's I get chased out of lane 3 by is mildly amusing :D
