Electrical whine from fuel pump

Featured Replies

So I have a 2015 4x4 110bhp Yeti ... bought with 50k miles from the main dealer back in January.

From the offset of ownership I have noticed a really high pitched electrical whine which continues for a few seconds after the ignition is switched off.  The sort of noise that once you have tuned in and identified it you just can't forget it is there.

The dealer looked at the car and agreed that there was a noise there ... after a second visit to rectify the issue they have now said it is the fuel pump and it is perfectly normal.... having owned previously the same year and model Yeti I am 110% sure it is not normal.

The noise doesn't change in pitch with revs it is just always there ... anyone else suffered this issue or are there any known faults of this nature?

Does it change in pitch/volume depending on the amount of fuel in the tank?

The pitch stays the same .. volume marginally increases dependant on fuel in the tank

Hi, did you get to the bottom of your problem? My 2016 Yeti Outdoor 2l diesel SEL has the just started displaying the same noise - seemingly coming from the rear. Any info would be greatly appreciated!

Are you sure it isnt the throttle body moving once the ignitions been switched off?

I notice mine when I get out of the car a lot more the lower the fuel level is. Normally below a quarter of tank it becomes noticeable.

Mmm I don’t think so - it’s a high pitched noise at the same level regardless of how full the fuel tank is and no matter what speed I travel. It starts as soon as the engine is switched on and turns off a second or so after the engine is turned off.... thanks though for your replies - any suggestion appreciated!

Mine is quite noisy as well to the extent that I complained at the last service only to be told it is normal. However I can only hear it with the radio off!

Thanks... maybe I’ll just need to get used to it. If it’s just a quirk of the car and not a fault then it’s not so bad!
