Front assist

Featured Replies

Hi

So my new fabia has front assist however I am unsure if its working.

Is it the front assist only works for automatic braking and judging the distance of cars for acc?

I thought that a function of the front assist is when you park the car and the front bumper gets close to a wall (or car) it will alert you just like it does for reversing.

I have done multiple front parking manovers since buying the car and it has never given any warning about proximity to the wall (or car) infront.

This will be a handy feature for me as its sometime hard to judge the space infront.

No, it's not a parking sensor. Unless you are trying to park at speeds in excess of 20mph anyway!

That's a shame as I sometimes have difficulty to judge the distance.

is there any tips or hacks I could use to help me judge the distance easier?

Yes, when you hit the object in front, Stop.

I think this method is called nudge parking.  😉

Put something taller than the bonnet in front of the car. Like a dustbin?

Then get in the car and look at its proximity to the front of your car for you to use as a guide.

I don't get an audio signal when forward parking but the screen shows proximity bars.

That doesn't sound right. Front Assist doesn't do parking sensor style stuff. @gumdrop, I'm presuming you have front sensors? Little circular things in the bumper? You might have got the volume turned too far down to hear it.

Ah! I have had a few problems, perhaps I had better drop it off at the dealers.

I think there are settings for the volume on parking assist in the infotainment/stereo? I only have rear sensors but I'm sure there were volume options. It's under car then the settings cog, worth taking a look

It's also worth pointing out that it doesn't beep until you're quite close at the front! At least, it doesn't with my Ibiza.

Where I park there is a tree infront of my space. The bits of tree that sort of sprout out the base of it (I don't have green fingers :D) almost always set off the front sensors, but they don't make a noise- it just pops up the graphic in the screen.

  • 1 month later...

I was sitting in rush hour traffic in Truro, the car sensors were tweeting away like an aviary of parrots.

I thought that fore and aft sensors only engaged when in reverse gear but it does not seem to be the case.

Even a pictogram of tail gating cars appeared! I think the software needs debugging it seems quite primitive.
