Electric Window Won't Open when Car is Moving??

Featured Replies

I've recently bought a three year old Skoda Octavia VRS, my first ever Skoda, and so far I'm very happy with it.  It does have an issue though in that the rear passenger window won't open once the car has started moving. If you open it before pulling off it will stay open, you can put it up and down as long as you open it before the car moves and don't fully close it. However, once the window is closed if the car is moving it will not reopen.

I've booked it into to the dealer in a couple of weeks time and in the meantime have spent some time searching online to see if anyone else has mentioned this fault previously but I can't seem to find anything similar.

Has anyone ever encountered this or have any ideas what might be going on? The dealer is saying if the issue is found to be wiring it won't be covered under the Approved Used Warranty so just trying to find out a bit more about it and possible causes.

Thanks

Well, I don't know for sure, but it could be a "safety measure", to stop kids opening the window and sticking arms (or anything else) out whilst the car is moving. I would have expected the dealer to be able to suggest this if I'm right though.

How odd.  Are you saying it's just one of the rear windows that acts like this? Have you tried both the window switch on the door and the switch on the drivers to to move it?

I can't think of any reason why this would happen (child safety devices would prevent the window from opening whether travelling or stopped - they also allow the window to be operated from the driver panel only). The problem almost sounds like it's related to the auto door locking function in some way - if activated then the doors lock when the car reaches 5mph or thereabouts.

I haven't a clue but if enabled, try disabling the auto-door lock function and see what happens.

By the way, when you say you've recently bought a car - how long ago?  Tell your supplier you're not claiming it as a warranty issue, you're claiming faulty goods under the consumer rights act 2015 and if he doesn't fix the problem, you'll take the car to another garage who can fix it and will then send him the invoice. If he fail to pay, you'll then claim the full amount via small claims court. Don't let the b*gger off with it.

Yes it's just the one window. The child lock button on the driver door panel works properly.  Neither the driver door button or the rear passenger door button open the window when the car starts moving.

I haven't tried unlocking the doors and then opening the window before switching the engine off, must give that a go tomorrow. I have tried it with the car in park before switching the engine off and it still won't open but if I turn the car off and restart it it opens straight away.

We bought the car end of March. I have spoken to the dealer we bought it from and made my position clear.  Its not our local dealer so it's not where I've booked the car in for the work but I've told them if it's not covered under warranty they will have to sort it out.

We didn't find it sooner as it's only with the nice weather my kids have tried to open the windows!

As you say it's just so odd.

Don't you just love it when the modern, computerized cars do what they want?

Not too long ago the driver was in charge to do what he wanted when he wanted...

Felicia electric windows with just a switch no relays no boards just cables and a motor. Well yes that's the spirit.

Ok so after driving to work this morning I tried unlocking the car and then opening the window before switching the engine off and the window opened so Golfmk56 appears to be correct its somehow linked to the door locking function.

I'm not sure if this will help Skoda fix the problem but it might give them somewhere to start.

It is the classical issue, a car with N computers for "comfort" (read lazy people) yet failing mechanical micro-switches on doors, door handles and windows.
