Rear wiper fuse and water bottle

Featured Replies

Hi guys I have a 2007 scout and my rear wiper has just stopped working,

can someone tell me if the fuse for the front wiper is the same for the rear wiper? as can only see 1 wiper fuse for the wipers on the card where the fuses are.

also I can hear the water pump motor working for the rear wiper but no water coming out does the rear wiper use the same bottle for water as the front wiper

thanks for any advice. Al

From what I can see in the wiring diagrams, there are two fuses, F19 in the "E" box under the bonnet is for the front wiper motor and F41 in the dash fusebox for the rear motor.

The pump and resevoir is the same for the front and rear screens, it spins one way for front and opposite for rear, so I would check the nozzle isn't blocked or look for puddles of water indicating a split pipe

Hi nige8021 or anyone else who can help.

I have checked the rear wiper fuse in the dash and its OK and has a live going to both sides of the fuse and the washers fuse is next to it and is also ok.

I can hear whats sounds like a relay behind the dash for both the front and the rear wipers clicking do you know if these have separate front and rear relays and if you might think it could be one of them?

and how to get to them?

front wipers and washers work fine

thanks for any help

One common scenario is that rear washer jet gets blocked and then the pump forces off the feed pipe and the water runs out of the bottom of the boot lid, or the water gets into the motor and that fails. Do a search as there are many threads on the subject.

There are two relays on the onboard supply unit and they switch a supply and ground to the rear wiper motor, but they also do the supply/ground to the washer pump so if you can hear that running for both front & rear that eliminates the relays

well I just checked the water to see if its dripping anywhere and theirs none mine being an estate car, but when I run the wiper motor a few times the casing gets warm, not hot just a bit warmer, so took it all off and apart sprayed in some WD40 put it back but still not working, tried poking a needle in the washer hole but not good may need a new one.

any ideals on the wiper motor I can try? or do you think it may have gone? just strange its getting a bit warm

On  the MK1 the wiper motor is a common failure

Mine is a 2007 mk2 though, think it may be a case of finding another wiper motor I cant think of anything else it can be.

also  a new rear washer thingy not sure what it would be called

Yeah I know you have a MK2 but knowing how lazy VAG are they tend to keep using the same items from earlier models, however have a look at this https://skoda.7zap.com/en/cz/octavia/oct/2007-419/9/  scroll about halfway down and you'll find the rear wiper section, there are some variations depending on your chassis number etc

thanks for all the help and advice, changed the wiper motor and washer jet and all working fine now :D

There aren't many MkII Octavia's, Seat Leon's, VW Golf's or Audi A3's of the same era that are still on their original rear wiper motors.

Inherently poor design.

Including the rear on estate where washer water is not present. My experience on the estate motor is that the brushes stick in the brush holders.

just glad it was not an expensive job to fix and the job itself is really easy
