How do I check my battery condition ?

Hi mad, you could take your car to somewhere like Halfords autocenter / Kwikfit etc for a free check. I yearly use a CTEK charger overnight which has a function that conditions the battery for longer life.

Just wondering, do you use one of the 12V sockets to connect your charger to, or do you have to open the bonnet and connect directly to the battery? Thanks.

What, even if it’s a trickle charger rated at max of 4A? I don’t have one but I thought these sort of things were designed to go in a “cigarette lighter” power socket – the sockets are good for 10A, aren’t they? Obviously not for a big battery charger. 

Always at the battery for me, I use crocodile clips as shown in picture on battery itself or the charger I have has a permanent connection as shown that could be used.

Thanks to all for your offerings. Took the car to my local Skoda  garage to have it checked and sods law, the stop/start system started working at the traffic lights about 50 yards away from garage. It has not worked for the last 6 months. Skoda carried out a free check and advised all was OK but just needed a proper charge and offered to do this free of charge if I can leave it with them for a full day.
