Cleaning the throttle body - how?

Featured Replies

Planning on cleaning my throttle body tomorrw then realigning it with VAG-COM.

Anything I need to look for? (signs of a replacement being required etc.) or it it a simple case of gently wiping it with some carb cleaner on a rag ?

Yup. Take the big hose off, spray some cleaner inside and wipe round. Watch the flap cos the edges are sharp and it's sprung loaded so it will try and cut both the rag, and more importantly, your fingers.

Is it worth cleaning inside the hoses that lead to the TB ?

Got to be worth a little cleaning otherwise the oil in them will soon make its way into the TB, but I wouldn't bust a gut - lots more oil where that came from.

Well I cleaned it this morning and boy there was a lot of oil that came out of it :o The good thing is that my car is now idling perfectly

However it is still getting the 17705 fault code and did the mystery "whoops where the turbo gone" thing afterwards.
