Virgin Media Broadband and XBox 360

Featured Replies

Are there any settings I should make to my XBox 360 to get it to connect via WiFi to a VM router as I always seem to have issues when with VM in connecting my XBox onto  XBox Live where it can be weeks or even months when I cannot get online despite contacting VM Customer Service (who are hopeless it has to be said).  The XBox 'sees' the VM WiFi, it just will not connect.  MY HP laptop is located adjacent to my XBox and can also experience issues connecting, but not as bad as the XBox.

Regardless of who I am with; Sky, BT TV or VM,  the router is located in the same location, as is my XBox 360 (no, not in a museum) and my laptop.

My connection with BT TV is the best out of all of them, however, my contract is due up in a few months and the price will double.  Looking online VM appear to offer the best price at the moment, so it looks like I may be going with them unless BT TV offer more than the 'possibly a few £'s off' they have hinted they may be at best to offer.

Many thanks in advance.

The routers often supplied with ISP are usually rubbish. I do wish that they wouldn't market the internet connection as wifi. Best thing to do is buy a cheap wifi AP, turn off the built in wifi in the isp's router, connect the new AP to the router by an Ethernet cable. You probably will need to turn off DHCP on the new access port to make it work properly.

The connection issues I had with BTTV was purely down to their engineers buggering up my line when out at the junction box for another customer. On those occasions I would turn my mobile into a hot-spot and connect to Xbox Live that way. Unfortunately I'm now on a 30GB contract instead of unlimited, but will wait a few months when the price of data 'add ons' drop - IIRC after approximately 6 months the price difference to go from 30GB to Unlimited was only an extra £5pm.

Problem solved!

Just checked 3's website and they've offered me Unlimited for only £3pm more than what I'm currently paying, even though it initially came up as £7pm more.

Any issues with WiFi, and I'll just use my mobile data!

Thanks for the advice.

A bit late to this thread but I used power line adapters as the response time was better and the connection more stable but echo what io1901 said about the provided routers being a bit naff, I always used them in modem mode and used my own router
