3.6 VR6 95 or 98 ?

Featured Replies

Hello,

As I would like the engine to last as long as possible, and, depending on the sources,  there are some conflicting information about the octane fuel index to be used.

Some source (to begin with the label on the fuel tank flap) quote 95 while some others read 98 .

Thus I would like to know what is the fuel to be used for the engine to be running in its "comfort zone" and thus not to be stressed

Any idea ?

What does yours say on the fuel flap?

My poverty 1.4tsi says min 95 RON - the manual states that it will run on 95 but will have improved performance / economy with higher octane fuel.

I always try to run on higher octane petrol anyway as if I'm driving up a steep hill in a built up area with the windows down and just using 95 ron petrol it's possible to just detect a bit of pinking ( I heard mine doing this uphill in Sarlat, France - I know the noise well from my engine building/tuning days way back when). For me pinking = potential damage, especially with modern shallow lightweight pistons.

If it just states 95 on the flap then it's probably not worth putting a higher octane petrol in. Try driving up a steep hill in a built up area with the windows down and listen for a very slight rattle.

PS I need to clean inside the fuel flap next time I wash the car!!

No UK filling stations sell 98 ron, so it has to be 95 octane, 97 or 99 that you choose.

All petrol vehicles EU Type approved have to be able to tun on 95 ron.

If it says 95 ron on the fuel flap decide yourself if Super Unleaded feels better for the £2.50 or so extra a tank 97 or 99 ron costs in the UK.

Shell V-Power Nitro+ might be more again than Tesco Momentum 99 in the UK.

Mk2 Fabia vRS 1.4 TSI have 98 ron as the recommended petrol. (95 minimum)
