2010 Superb MK2 Front Wipers Not Working

Featured Replies

Hi 2010 Mk2 Superb front wipers not working

These suddenly stopped and then swiped a couple of times and now nothing.

Stalk still activates 'wash wipe' without the wipe.

Bought second hand replacement.. presumed to be working ....doesnt quite fit but the motor is the same but still not working.

All checked with bonnet down.

Checked main fuse in engine bay 19

Any advice?

Thanks

Andy

So just to update this.. I actually have a 2014 one as well... so took the wiper motor out of the 2010 and plugged it in to the new one and the wiper worked... so there is something else wrong here... thinking it may the the stalk

Do you have a live AND earth on the thick wires at the motor? Ask your garage to use something like a Power Probe Hook to load the live and earth with the hotshot button Try disconnecting the bonnet switch, could be faulty (could also look at the driver display to see if the switch is closed). DONT USE THE HOOK HOTSHOT ON THE LIN WIRE!!! You will get special smoke from the ecu's and loom.

Next step would be to get VCDS or similar and look at measured value blocks in address 09. You can see if the switch is being registered by the network. Could be a broken or corroded  LIN wire. If the linkage is binding, the motor will shut down as it thinks the wipers are frozen to the screen. Move the spindles with the motor disconnected, they should be very smooth. The driver's spindle usually seizes up on older cars. You can remove the frame and dismantle the spindles clean regrease to restore operation. You may need to do a battery disconnect to get the motor working again or erase fault code for J400.

Just a thought, the motor from the older car may work as your 2014 car BCM hasn't shut the motor down as it's spindle will be free to move.

Hi... thanks very much indeed for all the information.

I will get my garage to see what you have advised next week sometime and will give an update.

In the meantime do you think another reason  could be a fault on the actual wiper stalk switch?

Thanks

Andy

Given the wash/wipe still makes the wash work, that points to the wiper motor, it's wiring or the linkage rather than the wiper stalk.

That's not to say you don't have multiple faults ;)

A wiper stalk is also pretty easy to check with VCDS or similar using measuring blocks.

Bonnet down and bonnet closed could be different.

Also the bonnet could be closed but doesn’t mean the car knows it is.

Ah, I gave up as soon as I read power probe (shudder).

I agree, but ONLY to those that don't know how to use them, it's just another tool in the box. Don't give up, I was simply saying the bonnet closed issue can easily be seen by looking at the DIS, if its open, J519 shuts down J400.

My mechanic was away when I picked the car up but It was a broken 'signal wire'  so a new wire was run from the ECU to the wiper motor.

From memory when I did my own power feed check to the motor on the  connector block from the harness to the motor it had three  connectors   L   N   -  X

From what I could see the new wire was connected to point X on the motor and run somewhere into the bulkhead

Thanks for all who advised on this. :)

Nice one, signal wire is the LIN wire, the latest 19 plate A8 has an issue with that too. Involves running two new Lin wires from BCM to feed wiper motor and washer control ecu so you are in good company.
