Broke the ashtray

Featured Replies

Hi everyone!

While I was cleaning out the car the other day, I seem to have dusted the cover of the ashtray too hard and now it won't stay closed. I've undone the four screws (well, three, one was missing!) and taken it out. It seems the tiny piece of plastic that slides around the moving groove mechanism has snapped, meaning it always just pops open.

I called the local dealer and they wanted

Hi everyone!

Maybe you can all tell me why there's a light bulb fitted to the bottom of the black plastic ashtray too

So careless passengers don't stub their fags on your carpets when its dark:rofl:

I managed to do exactly the same thing about a year ago, and was able to fix it myself.

If you remove the ashtray lid you will see that there is a small plastic pin that has snapped. I drilled this pin out and cut a small piece of metal to size and glued it in place, the pin size has to be accurate as it sits in some runners.

It has been totally fine since.

I couldn't work out how to remove the lid of the ashtray. It seems to be stuck to the spring, which is stuck to the body of the ashtray. Do I just have to pull really hard?

Skospares.com are offering me a used one for

Got my ashtray from Skospares (aka Roadside Rescue). £10+vat+delivery wound up being £17.63! Still, saved myself almost a tenner

The light is located under a white plastic insert which does indeed glow in the dark (well, more than the black plastic does  ). Shows how much I use it!

Now to put the broken one on ebay... :D

EDIT: Can't be bothered with ebay.
