Superskoda Mega-Power license plate LED lamp units

Featured Replies

All,

I have seen this discussed on the forums here but have not seen the information that I am looking for.  I suspect that this may be pretty straight forward, but I am struggling to see how these light units are connected.  I have pulled the existing light which is pretty much done.  The connector that I am left with is shown in Image 1 (1204).  The purchased lights and conversion kit are shown in Image 2 (1205) and Image 3 (1206).

How does all this fit together and are new connectors required.  The existing connector (in full or in part - with outer shell removed) does not connect to the new unit.  Any help much appreciated.

Best regards

What year is your Superb estate (combi)?

This kit you have is for the pre-facelift (2008 - 2015)...

For the facelift (2015 >) there is a different kit...

Thanks Silver1011 for getting back to me.  My Combo is January 2014 so before the facelift.  I thought that connecting these would be straight forward.  Not so however.  I am not even sure whether the resistors are necessary?

Again, any help much appreciated.

Regards

The resistors are needed to fool the blown-bulb warning system. Without them the lower power draw of the LED's versus the regular incandescent festoon bulbs would generate an error message and amber warning light on the dash.

Just to be clear, the connector you unplugged from the old number plate light housings won't connect to any of the new connectors supplied with the new LED units?

Hello Silver1011.  The existing connectors will not connect to the new connector blocks on the new units.  There may be some adapter that would make this possible.  Alternatively, I could connect new connectors to the car wiring.  I was posting to see if others have had similar issues with these units.

Could you post a picture of your tailgate? Those connectors look like the facelift type and can accept the genuine LED numberplate units which fit straight in, are the correct brightness (Superskoda ones are way too bright). You can set the coding for the genuine ones or,  you could ask the dealer to use an SVM code. I suspect you have a facelift rather than a series 3 if it is a 2014, or a late registered pre facelift.

I had to make some adapters up to fit mine, also with the genuine units and coding, you don’t need the resistors.

Top of picture shows my old type housing with the large plug, at the bottom shows genuine new type unit with LED small plug like yours with adapter fitted. I didn’t want to cut the original wiring so I can return to standard if I sell the car.

Thanks to all for your contributions.   All very valuable. It would seem that my car is fitted with the facelift model connectors and that I purchased the incorrect units from Superskoda (bit of a pain!).  Anyway, it would seem now that the units (non LED in Silver1011's last post and the LEDs in 3T1704X4's post) are both options.  The non-LED units will work fine I suspect, with no issues but the LED units will require coding.  Is this coding straightforward or will it require a visit to a main dealer?

Again, any help appreciated.

Regards

Anyone with VCDS near you can do it easily.
