V68 and V113 flap motor problems SOLVED!

Featured Replies

Since owning the vehicle I have always had V68 fault codes and quite often V113 ones as well, I thought that these motors would be really inaccessible but it turned out not to be the case.

I removed the glovebox to replace the can bus gateway module, another easy job, and saw that many heater flap motors were exposed, I did some output tests using VCDS but it was hard to see if any of them were moving, I had long suspected that they weren't, only by touching the casing and feeling the motor jerking could I see which motor was trying to move.

Removal of what i thought was one motor but turned out to be both of them was really simple, just 3 plastic clips to disengage once I could see by wearing reading glasses and with a work light.

Once removed I tested them hanging loose and they cycled from end stop to end stop, then I realised that the PO must have paid Muppet Mechanics Incorporated to fix a fault and ended up with a complete non functioning system after paying through the nose for the new motors, they had not moved the flaps to the end of their stroke or had put them at the wrong end.

After working out what should be where I refitted it and the flaps go through their full range of motion and the Climatronic is finally doing its job as it once did.

No more fault codes which was my aim although the clicking noise is still there which is coming from somewhere else, I only notice it after a few minutes with the ignition on and engine not running.

Both the can bus gateway and the flap motors looked to be very difficult jobs and Google/Youtube showed a multiple of different locations for these items, I can say that on a 2006 pre F/L they are both very easy to access and replace after removing the glovebox which is equally easy to remove.

Dont put the job off like I did!

Is your car LHD?

RHD but you make a good point.

As it was effectively mounted on the Climatronic system I believe that a LHD would be a mirror image unless the heating/aircon units are not handed.

Plenty of other fault codes to deal with today but the V68, omnipresent until now is conspicous by its absence.

One small step for J.R. ..........................

Thanks for that. When you said you removed the glove box it raised the question in my mind about LHD or RHD.

Glad you getting through the list. Clicking could also be a stripped gear on a Climatronic flap, so you may have another hidden away somewhere. Do you get the noise when you cycle everything during a Climatronic test with the engine off?

Hard to say, its such a quiet clicking that you cant hear it when the fans are running during flappaerobics or if the engine is running, its not constant either and the other 2 motors trying to move flaps that were already against their stops may well have added to the symphony.

Its a "characteristic of the model sir" :D

Doing some output tests last night I thought there was a problem with the V70 flap but after a long spell today I realise that various Climatronic buttons actuate various flap motors but not always to their full extent.

Did a thorough test of all of the pushbuttons motors and flaps and its all working perfectly, did not hear the clicking on the road today or while in the car playing with VCDS
