2004 Octavia drivers window, door lock, puddle light etc etc

Featured Replies

Hello,

I have a 2004 Octavia 1.9 tdi.

It has an issue with all electrics on drivers door.

So.

1. Mirror switch does not work.

2. Puddle light does not work.

3. Central locking does not work.

4. Interior light does not operate when opening the drivers door.

5. window switches, lock/unlock buttons do not work, with the exception of the drivers window switch which does work, for about 10 mins after disconnecting and re-connecting the window motor inside the door card. However, when it does work, the operation of the switch is reversed!!

All other windows/ locks function normally using either the fob, or the key in the drivers door lock.

The drivers window will operate using the key in the drivers door lock.

I did find a broken red wire inside the rubber bellows between the door and the pillar. I repaired it, and window worked for about 10 mins.

Any help appreciated!

Cheers

Russ

@russelljupp - Well, you're on the right lines; Have you looked at the multiplug inside the door?

Also there's a plastic cam in the driver's door lock that wears out and causes some of the other symptoms you mention.

Hi,

yep, checked the multi plug. There was a little corrosion on the lowest pins. Not much, so thats been cleaned and greased….

Next i guess is to check for continuity on the door loom.

The lock itself is working, but only manually. The fact that there is no power to puddle light etc is a bit confusing.

I hate auto electronics…..

My 2002 Octavia had a similar issue, locks would randomly stop working, windows as well, and the puddle light. Turns out a brown wire that is slightly thicker than the others (presumably the earth) had cracked and split where the door meets the car, i guess from fatigue. So check your wiring and continuity.
