Yeti Boot – spare to no spare conversion

Featured Replies

Hope you guys can help, have searched around but can't find answer to what might be an unpopular question!

I recently bought a Skoda Yeti 1.2 TSI which came with a space-saver spare wheel in the back. I want to take it out, on occasion, to get extra height/capacity in the boot. Yes, I know it's not the smartest idea but I really need to extra space.

I've discovered that the current (raised) boot floor doesn't fit the boot without the wheel/polystyrene boxes in it, so where can I buy a new boot floor/tray for when I've taken them out?

Any suggestions much appreciated!

You need the standard foam filler for the wheel well to support the rubber mat. Alternately cut some plywood to fit which will bridge over the recess and support the mat.

There must be loads of these and original carpet covered boards from scrap cars?

Thanks for the advice!

Will ponder over whether a tour of local of local scrap yards is preferable over buying/cutting plyboard.

I ordered the parts from my local dealer.  Basically, you need the polystyrene filler for the shallow wheel well, and the new boot floor (which is rather more than just a rubber mat).  I'm sure there are threads on here where the part numbers are quoted, if not then your dealer should be able to tell you (and you can search for them online if you think you can get them cheaper that way).

How old is your car?  I've just realised that I'm not at all sure that the low boot floor I bought for my 2010 2.0 TDi will actually fit in my 2017 SE on account of the Adblue tank/filler.  Probably not, and I should look to move it on.

Don't forget to also get a pump and gunk kit.  I appreciate space is important to you when you need to take the spare out, but there should be space for the pump and slime somewhere.  Even if you're with one of the outfits like the AA that keep temporary wheels in their van, being able to self recover will often be quicker than waiting an hour or two in the middle of winter.

I am aware the rubber mat is not the same as the original floor from the car without a spare. However it would replace it as it covers the same area, as long as it is supported over the recesses in the floor. You could mange with one or the other. After all Skoda don't consider the rubber mat as essential as they sell the car without it.

As my 2010 rubber boot mat from first 2x4 yeti is still going strong, looks as good as new despite hard use over over 9 years, and perfectly fits my 2017 4x4 with adblu, I am confident your low boot floor will still fit your current car.

Mine is 2013, a 1.2 TSI 2WD pre-facelift.

I see you're in Edinburgh, so I won't be popping round from SE London to take you up on that!

But let me know your price (inc postage) if you do want to move it on – I'll take the floor and the poly insert, but I'll happily take just the insert if that works for you - a lot easier to post!

So I'd only need the polystyrene piece to insert then (I've ordered the rubber mat now, as I'm a sucker for things with Yeti written on them)

This looks to be it?

Looks ok but its really expensive for a piece of foam?

I would have thought one from a breakers would be much less, and most yetis had them. Even if it came from an earlier car before adblu it could probably be trimmed to fit?

Get a polythene bag roughly the size of the insert, then spray some builder's filler foam into it. Lay it in position in the boot, then put a suitable board on top to keep it flat, and wait for the foam to set. You could even embed some tools in it!

That's a decent alternative, but it's likely I'll be taking it in and out depending on whether I need the extra boot space, so a 'proper' one might be a better bet.

I'm sure I have got the "no spare" foam filler up in the loft somewhere; shame you aren't nearer.

Hi Seth, I have one if needed as I just fitted a spare wheel to my wife's Yeti yesterday and removed it. It's from a 2013 4x4 L+K.

£25 shipped? I would send FedEx from my work so insured and next day.

I also have the floor carpet if needed?

Let me know,

Christian.

I took a completely different approach and fitted a dog guard.  When I need to carry a load of stuff I can pile it up to the roof if necessary with no risk of it coming forward if I have to brake hard.  The one I have even allows the parcel shelf to be used, although I don't bother.

The net partition option does this by design. Not very clear in brochure but I took a gamble and ordered it with my car. Fits behind either front or rear seats into slots in the roof lining and loops near the floor.

It has been usefull on several occasios to date.

@Gnomeface Might need one of those too to be honest! Let me know if you'd recommend yours?

@kenfowler3966 Is that only factory fitted, or can you just buy one and add it after?

@bliply Sounds good. I'll message you.

It is factory fitted but at least one person has retrofitted the slots into the roof lining as I think the fixings are underneath. The lower fixings are on all cars.

I wouldn’t want to cut holes on the roof lining though.

My dog guard was bought in 2012 (can't remember the make or where from) so a recommendation wouldn't be of much use now, but it tucks down behind the rear seats at the bottom and has straps to secure it to the rear headrests.  I had to fit a large piece of hardboard to it, otherwise rear seat passengers with the centre arm rest down would find a dog's head complete with long wet tongue poked through the aperture.  The guard does come out easily, just the two straps to undo and the telescopic side pieces to push in and it can be lifted out.
