Tyres- Are they hard to find for my Fabia?

Featured Replies

Ive tried a number of online sites to get tyres for my Fabia but they seem to be out of stock on quite a few.

Are they hard to get?  They are 205/45/16 W83.

I've recently had a full set of this size (205/45/16 W) fitted to my Fabia htp elegance by my local dealer. He offered me Kumho, Yokohama, General, Continental as well as a few more all delivered to him within 24 hours, so no, I don't think there is a shortage. It could be that you are searching for 'W83' instead of just plain 'W'. As you may know the W is the maximum speed rating of 270 km/h (168mph) for that tyre. If I were to do 168 mph in my Fabia I would also require W rated underpants... The speed ratings start at 'Q' (99mph) and go on up to 'W'.

This is not the most common size so options can be very limited if you need one or to be matched a pair instantly.

All of these have numerous options for 205/45/16 W or Y and 83 load in ditchfinder, mid-range and premium categories available in a few days.

If the full link doesn't work start at the front page.

The Fabia of course doesn't need tyres rated W or above plus the base models with the same engine power have 195/55/15 and V rated. However as W is manufacturer specified fitting V can be seen as a part that does not meet the safety approval of the car and hence invalidate insurance.

Would not invalidate any insurance, does not matter what came on from new, if the speed / load rating is enough, it's fine to use them

V rated is 149mph, so that even covers the vRS, even H or U rated would be enough for a 1.2Tsi.

I would use black circles, they get delivered to a centre near you and the price is fitted, simples....

massive choice

Summer tyres in 205/45/16 are easily available, but more expensive than e.g. 205/55-16. I wanted to compare winter tyres and all-season ones and some are not made in this size AND they are much pricier.
