Front calipers

Featured Replies

Hi all,

My 2013 1.2 TSI DSG7 is fitted with OEM Ate calipers up front. These are showing signs of hanging a bit, as I now and then notices heat radiation from the discs, and for a while, it's been a bit stuttering on starting rolling in 1st. So seemingly a basic issue with calipers not retracting, or is it as simple as worn and/or dirty gliders? Just not sure if to order a replacement set of calipers (~270 GBP for the Ate pair, brand new, NOT at dealership), or just try my luck with the gliders alone and retract the brake piston with the special tool.

Because these calipers are the ones sourced from Octavia mk1 from what I recall.

Best do a service as in a clean and grease and see how they are before spending.

When was the brake fluid changed last?

I don't remember, as it's been on official dealership intervals (yearly) in my ownership, and prior to that too.

Anyhow, I got a NK caliper fitted yesterday. Lukcily it was Ate with VAG markings. :)
It may have been as simple as the outer pad hanging on the carriers - had to bend and bash that sucker off...but changed the caliper regardless.

Main Dealership Servicing at Fixed or Variable Service intervals does not include doing anything to the the brakes other than a visual inspection.

(Major service says 'Check Brakes'.??? Is that at the road test, certainly not on a brake tester.  Usually comes with a recommendation you need new discs)

The Manufacturers Recommendations / Guidelines is the Brake Fluid changed at 3 years then each 2.

That is not part of the Service Regime and not part of Service Plans.

You have to ask for it and pay for it if not offered it.

As you have to pay to get Brakes Serviced.

UK Main Dealership Fixed Price Servicing that some might do, 3-10 year old cars.

Many cars never have wheels off for years unless tyres getting changed...
