Shake, rattle and roll!

Recommended Posts

Hello all . . . . my car has had a rattle for sometime now.

I have investigated obvious things, such as spare tyre and brace, bonnet latch, removed everything from the car during test drive, etc etc. I did wonder if it was caused by the floor of the boot (it appears to be a thin sheet of fibre board).

It occurs at low speed, while driving over cobbles or rough road surfaces.

It sounds like it originates from the centre of the vehicle, underneath the shifter. I cannot confirm it this is the case or not, in my experience a sounds in the cabin doesn't necessarily accurately reflect where it is.

I intend to inspect the suspension and associated linkages, bushes etc next weekend.

I would really appreciate any suggestions as to where to start if anyone has any.

the car, vrs estate 2017, petrol, mileage 13000 . it's still under warranty, but I would like to be able to go in with a degree of confidence as to the issue, demonstrate it to their mechanics and get it resolved.

I had a noise that sounded like a rattle/creak that happened at slow speed. I eventually tracked it down to the catches on the rear seat backs. I lubricated the mechanisms and the noise went away.

I took it to the local Skoda dealership (it's still under warranty). We went for a test drive with one of their mechanics. Fortunately, the mechanic heard both noises during the road test (which is a first!).

They advised the following:

Centre knocking cause, DSG cabling (I genuinely don't even know what this means). Claimed solution: wrapping in felt to prevent them from knocking. They took the centre console out apparently. Anyway, so far I haven't heard the knock since having the car returned. I remain cautiously optimistic.

Crunching/ creaking: Driver's side drop link. I'm slightly skeptical about this as I inadvertently suggested it during the road test. It's booked in for Thursday to have this repair, so I will report back.

Over and out.
