  1. good suggestion. I had the clubsport RARB fitted and that made a welcomed improvement to the handling
  2. fair dos, we've all got our taste. If it were me in your situation, I'd get the alloys sprayed gloss black and have the calipers redone in a similar shade to the paintwork.
  3. If you're considering getting the alignment checked, what about getting things like the bushes replaced? Wouldn't imagine you need to go for rock hard ones. Also, how come you're thinking of changing the red colour on the calipers?
  4. I had mine done by Darkside for my remap and I've ended up with 206hp and 475nm. I'm still able to get the MPGs into 50's when I'm just munching miles on the motorway, but it's certainly a noticeable boost in power when you stamp on the throttle. Compared to when I had the DTUK tuning box on, it's not regen'ing at the same rate and the power delivery is much more linear, rather than on or off. They race TDI's and prepare their own cars, so that place know the score with what are safe limits to tune to.

  6. it was mentioned by the stealership when it went in for it's service last month and I'm more happy it's something I need to attend to now with it being mentioned as an advisory on it's MOT this week, but I'm going to be needing to change the front brake discs within a few months. Along with that the brake pads will be changed as well. So back when I bought the car I did want to throw a big brake kit on the car, but I can't justify the price and I've tracked it twice already and the stock brakes were able to stop the car with enough consistency I wasn't thinking the brakes had faded (though with needing the car now as my daily for work, I can't see me tracking the car again). This then brings me onto the subject of aftermarket brake pads and discs. Back when I had my Hyundai i20, just changing the pads to EBC greenstuff made such a difference in how the car acted under both faster driving and also when taken on track. With being that much heavier, I was wanting to put yellowstuff pads on. Based on me daily driving it up and down a motorway, with the odd h00ning down a b road and more than likely not tracking this car again, I was thinking of just getting plain discs. I was considering getting the grooved ones, just for both looks and potential increased bite when I want it, but I wasn't sure if this would be a waste of money. Your opinions please

  9. I've got Osram H16 LEDriving bulbs in mine and they're spot on. I've my fogs set at DRLs and they do make the car visible during the day. I have the fogs as going out / coming home lights as well and they are very bright at night. I've used them at night in addition to my main beam and they really illuminate the patch where the main beam misses. They are on the expensive side, but they're of much higher quality than the ebay specials I tried out beforehand
  10. I'd be double checking your tyre pressures as well. Make sure they're bob on. Only issue with handling / stability and wet weather was lift off oversteer I used to get with the Bridgestone tyres the car came with. Since swapping to Michelins, that's never been an issue since. And I push the car.
  11. Good evening. My brother and I have invested in a new HEX v2 the other week, so one of you has the opportunity to purchase my trusty VCDS HEX+CAN. I purchased this a little while back from langers2k, so I'd wish for it to stay within the forum. As the title says, it is an unlimited VIN version. It does not include one of the hard cases, only the original jiffy bag (see picture below). It works perfectly well on my mk3 Octavia, but I know it doesn't work on my mum's 70 plate Scala. Double check for yourself it is compatible with your car. I'm after £199 ONO. Price includes UK signed for delivery. It is only listed for sale on here. Any questions, please message.

  13. The last couple of sets I've bought off ebay have cost around £10 for a set, but I've needed to throw a couple of rings of tape round to pad them out. My original Skoda ones started to come apart within the first year or so. Like yourself, I wasn't willing to pay the price for them and chose the cheaper option.
  14. My VRS TDI when driving on the motorway sees figures getting into the 50s Went 4 up to Aber Falls along the north Wales expressway on Monday and got 47.5mpg there and back. The normal 2.0 would be a bit better on fuel and you'd still have a bit more poke than the 1.6 TDI.

  16. over the last 15000 ish miles, I've got near enough 42mph from my VRS TDI. Spirited driving drops it into the 30's and long distance motorway driving gets it into the 50's.
  17. my first car was an N reg 1995 mk3.5 Fiesta Azura with a 1.1lt engine. It was my nan's old car which she'd given up for me. Considering it only had about 50hp, it wasn't that slow. But I suppose when it doesn't have luxuries like power windows, AC, power steering and a passenger airbag to weigh it down and you can understand why. The vast majority of my friends either own one, have owned one or learned to drive in one. I understand small EV cars may be getting increasingly popular, but as has been said, you're stuffed unless you can charge them. Two of my friends live in terraced houses without a driveway, so home charging would be difficult and I know their workplaces don't have charging points. One of them used to lift in a flat, so albeit throwing an extension lead out the window to the car park, owning an EV there would have been a non starter.
  18. a long overdue update, but I wanted to drive the car to the limit before reporting back. So as said above, I had KW V3's on order and they got fitted on 16th March. Following just over 1000 miles of daily, touring and fast road driving I can report back with the following............ THEY ARE BLOODY BRILLIANT!!!!!! This addition to the car has just made it drive how I have always wanted it to. I am glad I had the rear ARB fitted, albeit accidentally, first so I was able to feel how that made the car feel, and I've now been able to experience how the coilovers are. First, the car has been lowered by approximately 25mm. As you'll see from the below pics, we can see it's lowered, but I doesn't look slammed by any means. I haven't needed to drive any different since lowering because I didn't want to have to creep over speed bumps, or worry about going up a multi story car park. Body roll has virtually gone. Taking it for a 'razz' and you're able to confidently take a bit of speed into a corner. I've added a bit more bump to the rear so it's not wanting to lurch back when accelerating, but I've kept it standard on the front. With it being corner weighted, the car just feels more agile and with the remap, it's comfortably able to dart out of a corner. I used to think the Michelin tyre were good anyway, but they're come into their own now. I went 4 up on a trip to Snowdonia and whilst the rear dropped a little bit, the car still felt ready to go. There is only one thing which you do notice that little bit more and that's the road imperfections. The standard VRS suspension does deal with the bumps good, but the KW's don't appreciate them. Whilst don't aim for them, I do find myself scanning the road a bit more any potholes or broken tarmac. All in all, I am made up with all which I have done to my car in the past few months and here's to being able to get even more from my car
  19. do the mudguards make a lot of difference? I can't say about a before and after because I bought them with my car. I'd sooner keep mine on to save 'crud' getting pinged up at the car and save thruppence ha'penny on my fuel bill
  20. yeah, once you were moving it was fine and the vibrations blended into the normal driving ones. Come to a stop or drive slowly and it was unbearable. It was 'fine' to a point when I first installed it because of lockdown and I was only using the car every so often. Once it was lifted and I was back using the car more regularly, it was time to get rid. One of the worst things I've ever done to any of my cars
  21. I'd be questioning why they're so cheap. £300 seems worryingly inexpensive for coilovers, even entry level ones.
  22. considering you've gone to the trouble of pulling the engine out, I'd be replacing quite a few parts. As long as it doesn't cost stupid money. If there is an issue with the rings, are the bores damaged in any way?
  23. hmmm looks good that dongle. I may consider getting something like that as my S22 with it's case it sticking out of the gap by the socket and I keep knocking the USB cable whenever I change gear. I may look to get a cradle with a QI charger, just so on longer journeys my phone doesn't run out of juice.
