The can bus

Featured Replies

Hello partners,
I know I'm going to ask for something almost impossible
But I need to find a person who knows how to manage and control
The can bus program for skoda Octavia
Let's see if I'm lucky and you can help me
To finish off the impossible mission,
This person should be in Spain and, if possible, in the northern area.

Now I tell you a little more about my problem, I am a person with very limited financial resources. I am forced to replace the radio that comes standard or skoda Octavia edition 100, for a low cost radio. I have managed to find a workshop in Bilbao, called Radio Andorra, which is located on Lehendakari Aguirre Street in Bilbao, which offers me the installation of a radio of Chinese origin but of very good quality, which also allows me to keep the usefulness of the parking sensors that my vehicle has as standard.
And all this has been offered to me at the economic cost of € 320.
Until then, everything was perfect and I was a happy man.
But one day the technician of the workshop, I request a photograph of my speakers from the front door, on the speakers comes a metal plate with a name that I can not remember.
The technician of the workshop, informs me that under the seat of my skoda there is a "sound amplifier" we are going to call it that.
That controls the 12 speakers of my vehicle, tells me that the skoda cambus this is programmed to react only to the original radio signals skoda., That with other signals does not react therefore it does not sound anything in the car.

He tells me that the Chinese radio only has an output for 4 speakers,
I say to him, that for my part there is no problem, I have more than enough to separate (from the sound) the front part of the back and left of the right. All ok
He answers me, that this is absolutely impossible, because this amplifier only controls it and starts up with the cambus, original skoda, tells me that the only solution is to buy an amplifier apart from the -6 tracks .... With a minimum cost in manufacture of another € 300.
That budget for me is unaffordable.
He also tells me that if a person could program the skoda cambus so that it will react to any radio signal, not only to the original Skoda radio signals ... All the problem would be solved, and I could enjoy my radio for my € 320

I don't think the original Skoda amplifier can be programmed for use with aftermarket headunits such as the Chinese one your fitting.

However, some people claim that removing the car battery for 30 minutes can fix the problem. It's not something I've tried though....

I have also read that elsewhere as a solution for the fault codes I have after fitting a Chinese head unit where the canbus cannot find (or recognise) the radio, I suppose its worth a try.

to the OP, you say that you have been forced to replace your original radio, was it broken? What type was it?

I ask because to my knowledge the old non Satnav spec units like my Stream head unit are pretty much worthless once removed, it should be relatively easy for you to find one on Ebay vety cheap but there would be the cost of delivery and of recoding to the vehicle unless there is a PIN code with the unit.

My Chinese had unit works OK but perhaps I dont have a seperate sound amplifier, your radio must be capable of driving the speakers directly.

I think you have a more high-end model, which had, at that time, the special amplifier and speaker package. (which, at least on the dutch models, could be identified by the subwoofer in the back (behind the tail light at one side) and by the 'canton' branding on the chrome part near the tweeter in the doors)

this might be a pita to get to work with a non-original headunit. However, if you don't need that fancy amount of sound and are ok with just the normal speakers, they should be able to rewire the speakers directly to the HU, so the internal amplifier powers the speakers directly (bypassing the amplifier)

Shouldn't take more than 1 hour to fix. Rear speakers might be a little harder, depending on the routing of the wires.

If the amplifiers has an internal low/highpass filter (If I remember correctly, this is the 'Canton sound system', which has a tweeter and separate woofer in the front doors) you might need an external filter, but thats about 30 EUR or so (And you don't need an expensive one, since the quality of the replacement HU is probably equal)

According to the wiring diagrams, the OEM head unit outputs the normal 4 channel speaker direct to the Amplifier under the front seat and this outputs to the various speakers
