Car parts search based on Reg No. accurate?

Featured Replies

If you go to a parts website (like ECP) and put in your reg does it "know" about factory fitted options.

I'm pretty sure I have sport suspension setup based on codes on the sticker in boot "2UC" but if I go to ECP and put in Reg No. will that just give me standard replacement parts for springs and shocks? Would rather be able to do it myself than go to dealer.

In my experience, ECP's reg number look up will offer you every possible part that might fit any variant of a particular model. i.e. next to useless.

In the Fitment Details tab you should find a matching PR number (like 2UC) though, so you can figure it out if you know that.

I've had real problems with this recently while looking for replacement shocks (bilstein B6).  Rears were easy enough but the garage doing the work (who I trust BTW) said they were one size but I thought they were another.  Ended up getting both and sending the unused set back.

So yeah, you need to use some knowledge about specific specs when looking at parts online.

I didn't realise the non-vrs O3 came with sport suspension as an option.  Do you know if its just shorter springs or different shocks too?

I have no clue, need to get under there and see if I can see any part numbers. This car is a bit of weird one, came with 18" Golus alloys  on 225/40/R18 and has always been a very hard ride. Now I've got knocking from the rear so need to have a look at new shock possibly.

So it's not a vrs, has strange tyre size and an unusually hard ride.  I'd be very interested in learning more.

Sorry got the tyre size wrong - should be 225/40. Found an old thread where almost everyone complaining that sport suspension is just  bad on an already harsh riding model (rear torsion beam). Wish I'd known before buying. Still can always change right?

check the ARB droplinks carefully as these cause knocking over bumps like you describe - there seem to have been a few posts recently about noises like this - I wonder if they are all starting to fail at roughly the same age

mine all went within a month of each other after i changed my ARBs to thicker ones and presumably put a bit more stress through them

Excuse my ignorance but is that front, rear or both?
